I need opinions on which TV to buy.

52" Sony XBR6 for $1500
50" Panasonic TH-50PZ800U for $1000
Or 42" Panasonic TH-42PX80U for 420

Tv will be used as a bedroom tv for everything (movies, video games, possibly blu ray eventually, TV digital cable no HD currently)

I have seen both TV's and really like the looks of both. I just don't know if the Sony is worth the extra 500. I am open to ideas but these are the TV's I am going to decide between.

Wow, only $420 for the 42"? Seems like a killer deal to me. Leaves you enough money to get a PS3 or standalone player and start adding BDs to your collection.

the only problem with the 42 is it's only 720 the other 2 are 1080 so blu ray will be more than the 42 can handel.

If you do not need the larger screen yes. Here and Here is some reading to get you started on calibration, so you can get the most out of your new display.

I definatly don't need the 50" or the 1080P seeing as how this is a bedroom TV but I was thinking about down the road it might be nice to have. I could get a 42" 1080P also for not much more than the 720 (I don't know the exact price off the top of my head)

If it were you guys buying it what would you get?

most cant tell the difference from 1080i/p. Thats a great price on a 42. Get a pivot pitch mount, open the wall up, run some wires(run some extra), and your good...

How big of a difference is the contrast ratio going to make? These are the 8 tv's I am really deciding upon (I thought I had it narrowed but then I got to thinking) all are panasonic. Just looking for which one you guys would pick for what I listed for just a bedroom tv (I have a 61" DLP 1080P for my living room) Thank you for the advice sorry I have been back and fourth. Right now I am leaning to the 42" or 50" cheap tv bandphan thank you for the advice. Just curious if these other choices would change your mind

42" 720P 15000:1 $420 TH-42PX80U
42" 1080P 20000:1 $540 TH-42PZ80U
42" 1080P 30000:1 $750 TH-42PZ85U
50" 720P 15000:1 $640 TH-50PX80U
50" 1080P 20000:1 $980 TH-50PZ80U
50" 1080P 30000:1 $1070 TH-50PZ85U
50" 1080P 30000:1 $1000 TH-50PZ800U (this is higher end than the one above)
58" 1080P 30000:1 $1840 TH-58PZ800U

your getting gr8 prices, so get the most tv you can with your budget. The upper end sets you listed will have better pq, but they all are better than an LCD:p;):D Since its for the bedroom, check your distance, calculate, and bam buy that sucker.

Well i think the msot I want to spend right now is the 50" 1080P for $1000 but I am debating if I should just get the 50" 720P for now for $640. My bed room I will be about 8 feet away or so probably a little less. Not a whole lot of light. I am planning to buy one tonight and I do not "Need" 1080P right now but down the road I might as I can get a good deal on Blu Ray players right now also. One final question it's going to be between these two Tv's which would you go with? I know I have asked tons of questions and everything but these are my two final choices and I am buying one tonight

I think that 1080p vs 720p is noticeable on a 50" TV. My opinion is that if you get the 50", get 1080. That'll leave you without wondering: "what if?" My philosophy has always been that you can never really regret getting a bigger screen (unless you really needed the extra money, in which case you probably shouldn't be buying a big TV in the first place).

Again: IMO 50" 1080p.

Well my choices were narrowed to 42" 720P and 50" 1080P. I think I will just fork out the few extra bucks and get the 50" I was all ready to buy the 50" 720P but that didn't work out.

Luckly I have self control.... so far. I think the 1080P 50" will be a good addition to my room and adding a BDP S300 for a good price will be even better. Thank you everyone for the advice.

Panny 50", especially for $1000. That is a super deal. If you get the 42, you will be like, "damn, I should have gotten the 50." Trust me on that one;) I have a 50 and just got a 58 for the family room.

I would go for the "50" Panasonic TH-50PZ800U for $1000" .. The Sony is the second choice. Either way both those prices are very good for what youre getting.
