Not Sure What Good Subs Are Out There

I currently have the setup below and I am looking to upgrade my sub. Right now I have a Def Tech PS60BK (Freq Response: 23Hz — 150 Hz. / One high-definition 8" -driver / Built-in Amplifier: 150 watts).

The reason for the upgrade is primarily to get more bass for music and secondarily for movies. My use mix is about 60% movies and 40% music. For movies the sub is good but fairly weak for music. I am not sure if I want to get another sub exactly like the one I have or buy a bigger one and use a single sub. I like the idea of two sub for more balance but more than anything I want bass iwht more depth.

Please let me know your thoughts and recommendations. I am currently researching subs but have NO idea which subs are better than others.

I have to admit I have been impressed with my current DefTech sub. My budget is about $500 and the room size is about 12’ x 16’ and opens into another room.

gus, they are Outlaw Audio LFM-1Pluses. I have left the paper on the top as they come with a real nice glass top. I mentioned these, because I am gettin g better at taking pictures-this was taken earlier today.

Maybe an Epik Valor, for a good Sealed Sub for music first and HT secondly...

15" Sealed... $549.00 would be a good value IMO...

I've owned SVS and HSU subs and I whole heartedly recommend both of them. For a room that size, you could get away with a PB-10, but I'd still go with a PB-12 or a 25-31PCi cyclinder. The Outlaw subs were designed by Dr. HSU, so you won't go wrong there either.

Ya no, I've always wondered why a well respected company, performance wise, keeps shooting themselves in the foot with bloated marketing specs. I guess the audio forum community is just irrelevant to their overall sales strategy.

I have said all along, modern day Bose. You just can't beat those High Definition Drivers.

Thanks all for the advice. I got a super deal at a Best Buy new store grand opening here in Chicago on the Klipsch Sub-10 for just under $280. I strongly considered the SVS PB10-NSD but for roughly $140 less I had to get the Klipsch - money is tight at home.

The difference between my old Def Tech PS60BK (8" driver, 125w RMS) and the new Sub-10 is, well, dramatic. The low movie effects are much better. I'm still tweaking the settings but it is a great sub at the price point AND gives me what I was looking for.

Selling my old one on craigslist to give the wifey "thank you" money!
