Picked this up the other night. I almost didn't buy this after seeing that it was a "family" movie. Didn't see this in the theater and never watched SR cartoon so didn't know much about it. The real reason I bought it was it's only my third BD disk and there wasn't anything "new" this week that looked better.
But I'm now glad I did get it. It is a very family movie (there are a couple small violent scenes), but mostly it's the kind of violence where no one dies, sex with out nudity, the good win out and the bad are defeated, a real feel good movie.
But the acting is really good, even the monkey, the story is engaging and easy to get sucked into. But for me it was the increadible visuals and action. Yes it's all over the top CGI but it's SO well done and SO freakin bright and colourfull you can't help but be amazed at it. There isn't a square inch of screen space that isn't used fo something, you could probably just watch the lower left hand corner and be enthralled with it. I will watch it again several times just to see everthing, so it has great replay value.
My only complain with it is the fact it isn't a weekly show for kids to watch (and me), I found it to be engrossing in the way the original Star Trek was or Batman. Ridiculess sure but just plain fun and that's what a movie is suppose to do.

The cartoon was ridiculous too, but that was the style at the time. When I saw the trailer for this, I just looked bad. I'm sure it will be a great looking and sounding disc, but I need a movie to go along with it to make it worth a rental. I might download it off PSN if they have it for rent in HD cheap.

If you want impressive sound and visuals in a family movie, get Ratatouille.

I just cancelled my order for this from Amazon today.

It seems that the geniuses that are releasing this decided to only give the movie a Dolby Digital soundtrack!!!! Not even DD + !!!!

I had pre-ordered it because I figured if nothing else, it would look good and sound great, and I've been waiting for a racing movie with good sound to come out. What the hell?!?!?

Oh well, they won't be getting my money any more. I guess I'll just rent it.

I really loved this movie also. I would get it just for the visuals. But it was real fun. It had me real hype during the racing scenes. The ddigital is not a real problem. Im sure that true hdor dts master would give crisper highs but the bass was excellent. I had some guests over and they were amazed by my sub. "why is my seat shaking"

Highly recommended.

Are you kidding me? A movie with all this special effects with just DD? That is retarded!

I'm glad you mentioned that.

Yup. Just checked Blu-ray.com. They gave this movie only 2.5 Stars for DD Audio. Retarded.

They're probably planning on doing a double-dip, like they did with Superman Returns.
