Yamaha S55 for L/C/R front stage?

Am I retarded to think about using these for at least the front stage, if not all 5 channels? I've already got 2 that I've been using as surrounds for years and I love them, they're killer for a small speaker. I can get another 2 used for $170, and then I just need to find another pair to have all 5 matching speakers.

The freq response is supposed to be 60 Hz to 40 kHz, and they're designed to be nearfield studio monitors, so I imagine the curve is pretty flat. I realize they're not exactly beautiful speakers, but those who know me so far know that I'm more into pro-audio than pretty speakers.

My new listening room is 12' wide, the couch will be about 10 ft away. My rack is a flat 7'8" wide surface, so I would put the L/R at each corner, standing up, and the C in the centre, also standing up, about 1.5' away from the back wall.

So I think these and a good sub would be fine, and my RX-V1500 will drive this 6 ohm load all day long... :D

I can't seem to find other bookshelfs in this size range with a larger mid-bass driver (6" min) that are resonable ($1500 or less for a set of 5), that look to me like they'd perform like these. I need some advice!

I think you need to start getting out and auditioning speakers.

After the suggestions in the other thread (revolving around horn loaded bookshelfs) I think you're right. Those HSU HB-1's sound like something I'd be interested in.

Pair those with one or two of those SVS subs you guys keep talking about, or an HSU sub, should be a decent combo.
