Okay, fine...so he didn't pick out his speakers first. Big deal. He read the recommendations, and he chose to go another way. That's his prerogative, right? That doesn't mean that he didn't listen. He just made up his own mind.
That's why I wanted to say it without actually saying it. It's the kinder, gentler version of me.;)

One thing is for sure about Dynaudio, they are not for everybody. I think they make a fantastic reference point in the audition process but may not pass the preference test. In celebration of the hair bands mentioned in this thread, I've got a little Bon Jovi goin' on this AM and I'm kind of glad I don't have the Dyne's hooked up. I prefer the Era for this kind of music. It's all very subjective.

Adam gave you a real world answer and if you choose to get an amp, I highly suggest the Emotiva XPA-5. 200 watts EASY, and loads more into 4 OHM's. Excellent build quality, powerful, only $799.00. Adam has Emotiva amps, I have an Emotiva prepro and 7 channel amp (5 in use), and guys all over the forums have Emotiva because they truely rock out. Great stuff.

Try your system first! If at high volume levels you think its giving out of gas, give that XPA-5 a thirty day try. Yeah they let you try it out for a month, no questions asked.

Just to be fair, Outlaw Audio sells some rather nice equipment too. There are others, but other members will have to suggest them. Oh yeah, NAD, and Denon come to mind. NAD is the brute force in amps, they build stuff that laughs at 2 OHM loads. I own an old 2 channel NAD 2200 amp that puts out 100 watts per channel into 8 Ohms, and 600 watts into 2 Ohms.

But really try what you've got first. Then do your amp research.

Gimpy_Ric, nice amps but I don't think Rsd22 will need them because the new AVR he just purchased , the Pioneer 1018 is pretty stout in itself at 130 watts per channel. However, he could always add them later.

I think the best is to replace the fronts and get a center that will match to maintain timbre (seamless sound). I am preferential to the Def Tech towers and the Def Tech CLR center. http://www.definitivetech.com/

Then add a nice SVS sub. Rsd22, because you have a large room you might consider two subs, such as the SVS PB12-plus ( new model) or a single PB13-Ultra. http://www.svsound.com/products-sub-box.cfm

If at all possible it is best to audition the speakers and find something you like the sound of.

GoodLuck.

But I'm having fun shopping around.
That is a good thing.

Listen to as many speakers as you can. Be open minded. You have to be 100% happy with what you buy.

Enjoy the shopping.:D

Oh, and by the way, don't take it too personally what some of these guys say. Some of them may have had a little to drink.;)

Especially that ParadigmDawg. He is a bad dawg!:D

Maybe I can help someone with their receiver purchase:

Last night I rented the Motley Crue BD. The picture was nothing even close to the last Blu-ray I watched (Rambo). This disc looked like a regular DVD. There are so many setup features on this BD player, maybe I didn't have it set up right. But I really wasnt looking for picture quality -- more like raw sound with the 1018. Now remember what speaks I have, the Bose cubes from 10 years ago (with a module that a dog pied into) so my sound is going to be relative.

But as a few of you have already said, I'm going to be blown away when I finnally get the new speaks. I say this because I cranked the 1018, cranked it higher, and then pushed it even more (all at 2 channel)........and to be honest the sound was incredible (yes that is a relative statement for me). Crue songs like 'Kick Start my Heart' and The drum solo by Tommy Lee were sheer balls to wall rock. Once I get the new speaks I can't imagine I'd need an amplifier after the way the 1018 puts out sound.

But when I played 'Home Sweet Home' (a slower rock ballad) I noticed my speakers, I don't know how to explain it, just sounded strained (?????) at a high level. I assumed it was the speaks. I played with the 1018. There are several "modes" to listen to and one is under BD Menu/ADV SURR/Rock-Pop.....this brought the sound to another level. Better, at least with my speaker setup.

I'm sure there are recievers out there which will outperform the 1018 but for the money, and for what "I need" in a reciever, this one fits just fine. I highly reccomend the 1018. heck for under $500, how could you go wrong.

We are talking about Bose Acoustimass cube speakers aren't we? How much better can a receiver make those speakers sound?
Fair enough, but Bose was my first (and only speaker) purchase, so I have nothing to compare them too. At least in my home.

Just to get one thing straight. I am "Not" making fun of your speaker system. I have always stated that "It's not what system you have. It's as long as you have a system that counts".

What I'm stating is that those Bose Cube speakers can only go so far with sound quality. And IMO your old receiver vs. the new receiver with those Bose Cubes is "Not" going to improve the performance (sound quality) of those speakers.

Not knowing the receivers amp section, I recommended the amps, but I did tell him to try out what he already has several times first.

BUT...If the OP goes with those Dyn Audio 4 Ohm mains, will his receiver power those? And I REALLY agree that the OP should match his L/C/R and rears given his budget. And I really REALLY agree about the PB13 Ultra ;).

This thread is like leading a horse to water
