New Member - My Pics

Hi All,

I love looking at other peoples set-ups so I thought it only right to post my own. It isn't much to look at and is in desperate need of upgrades, which I am working towards.

Please excuse the room, I am in the middle of painting the room so there are no pictures etc around the room. And the cabinet for the aquarium isn't finished, the doors aren't falling off. I'm waiting on clips for them

Is that a tri-pod mounted, self-leveling laser level that you've got there? Perhaps for the two-tone walls? Someone's gettin' fancy.

Yep, My father-in-law is a retired painter so if the division in colors isn't exactly level I won't hear the end of it!

You think that beam is the perfect place to hang a projector off of to?

Sadly, according to my wife I can't replace that TV until it dies. I'm not above killing it when she is not home though!

I thought it was an empty fish tank.

I was planning to upgrade to 7.1. I was going to place the side surounds on the walls beneath that bulkhead and leave the surround rears on the counter top at the back of the room.. Would that work?

It is neither, it's an aquirium.

Looks like a challenging room for HT. IMO I wouldn't put the rear surrounds all the way back.

Really? I didnt' think that it was that challenging, but then again that's why I'm here, to learn.

I agree that having the surrounds that far back isn't ideal but having a happy wife is! She said the basement was mine to do what I pleased with but that only goes so far.. lol

IMO you would benefit from using tower speakers, or bookshelf speakers on stands right behind your seating area for your rear surrounds. Since you have a drop ceiling it would be easy to run the cable. You could run the rear left surround down the column, and the rear right down from the wall. I can't see it there is a corner in the rear right you could use.

It doesn't look like there is a corner in the rear right.

What you could do it a little dry wall work, and build a column down that wall. What also would be cool is to make a shelf that runs down that whole wall to the front.

It's your house. Just an idea I had from looking at the pictures.

All the way back isn't a problem at all; it should be fine for a room that size, but sitting on the counter is never a good thing in my book. I might consider wall mounting them above the tank in between the cabinets, or even consider in ceiling since you have the drop ceiling.

Nice room RParker. Welcome and have fun. There is a pretty nice group of people here but watch out...we like to spend others money more than our own sometimes!

From the seat closest to us on the couch it's about 14' to each speaker, rear surrounds and mains.
