Very nice set-up. I bet it goes VERY loud...
Thanks! Best I have hit was 116 dB in one of the seating positions, but with the changes I hope to push it closer to 120 dB... not that there's any need for that! But it's fun.... :D:cool::D

Keep me in the loop, I'd like to hear what you think of the B52s... how much power are you going to throw at them?
Well I got everything set up and it sounds fantastic. The B52's are scary loud and are not harsh at all. I had a couple of friends in the other day and they were a little sceptical at first thinking that I was probably going nuts because of the size of these things but after they heard them they were amazed at how loud they were without being distorted or not loseing the clean sound they are used too. The Polk RT25's that I run with them blend pretty nice and help with the midrange. I picked up another amp, a crown xls402d for $185 yesterday and I will be able to complete the setup with that amp. I love it.........

Good to hear! The headroom of pro-audio stuff is outstanding, and I happen to like the in your face vocals that the horn tweeter provides. Glad you like your setup! :D

Why do I see 4 remotes instead of one
I was looking at some tablet remotes, but not fond of the fact that I couldn't find a bluetooth one to work with the PS3... I'm not spending $200+ on a remote unless it runs EVERYTHING. Basically I'm too lazy to spend more than that for a simple convenience...

Besides, 4 remotes makes it impossible for other people to operate my system so they don't even try.

I had my buddy over once, and we went out drinking, came home and I slept in, buddy got up and tried to watch TV on the thing, ended up turning the gains up all the way on my power amps because he couldn't figure out how to change the volume. What do people not understand about not touching other peoples stuff? Needless to say I don't talk to him anymore... :D

New House!!!

Hell my offer was accepted on the new house today, so I've got a new area to work with! :D and

The living room upstairs is much smaller than any HT room I've ever had so far, so my pro audio stuff is WAY overkill for it, in fact it likely won't physically fit.

Here's the equipment I currently own, and what my first thoughts are for what to do.

New house rooms:
- Living room is smaller... 18'6" x 12', and on the TV wall there is a door on the right side (see pics)
- Shop: 16' x 48', will probably build a sauna in one corner, car and jetski take up 1/4 of it, LOTS of room for other stuff
- basement: unfinished at the moment, the area thats worth finishing is
about 14' x 30'

Equipment (power and speakers):
Yamaha RX-V1500
Behringer A500 (x2)
Denon POA-5200
Yamaha S115V club series mains (2)
Yamaha S15e club mains (2)
Yamaha SW118 club subwoofers (2)
Yamaha S55 nearfield monitors (2)
Yamaha towers (w/dual 8" woofers)
JVC older tower speakers

This is what I'm thinking and I'm open to options here, I'm working with a low budget at the moment, so maybe selling/trading some of my stuff would make it worth while.

Living Room:

I don't currently have a display anymore, sold my projector and screen, and that's fine because the living room isn't really big enough for one. Would like a ~58" plasma but may wait. I want to run dual monitors off my receiver so that I can eventually use the PS3 as my home computer, so I'm thinking about buying a good 32" TV now, and using it in the living room until I can afford a nice big plasma.

The only speakers that would fit here are the towers with the 8" woofers, and I'm not convinced they're great quality. I may sell some stuff and buy a decent set of 5 speakers, and a sub.

Shop:

This thing is big as hell... (~750 sq ft) and it's clean, so I'd be willing to put my big Yamaha club speakers out here, but I don't see the need for the 18" subs anymore. So I'll run a zone 3 out to the Behringer amps going into the S115V's and the S15e's.

The RX-V1500 will control the volume on the pre-outs to the amps.

Other:

I don't want to get rid of the S55 nearfield monitors, and may even pick up more to use in the living room, but if I don't, I'd setup a zone 2 in my computer room, run the powered zone 2 outs into the S55s.

So, to make a long story....uhhhh.....not any longer... I could sell:
the JVC's (next to nothing)
the Yamaha dual 8" towers (maybe $100)
the Denon POA-5200 (???)
the Yamaha SW118s (????)
maybe the Yamaha S15e's (????)

Then use those funds to pay for a set of 5 speakers and a sub for the living room. You guys think I could get a decent 5.1 set for whatever I could get for the rest of my stuff (guessing $1000-1200 total)???

Of course all of this would be thrown out the winder if I finished the basement and got myself a good 14' x 30' HT room... then the pro stuff stays front and centre. :D

Aaron, congrats on the new house! When do you move in?
Thanks! Really fast actually, Oct 21st... luckily all my stuff is in storage so I have no packing to do at all.

Actually it's kind of fun having to go to a smaller room, I'm trying to find a set of speakers that'll be comfortably powered by the RX-V1500...

That's crankin'!
Do you recall the style of music? I've hit 116dB on some bass heavy Electronica with my set up (mainly due to the Ultra).

A classic: The intro to Cypress Hill - I Ain't Goin Out Like That

There's one NIN track that I like to use because it has a low white noise that really gets things moving... (starts at about 0:39)

The Art of Self Destruction (pt 1)

That's a great looking setup! It doesn't look like you're using that brown leather love-seat, how about sending it my way? ;)

LOL, those were my roommates, so when we moved out of that house, I traded my projector and screen for the La-Z-Boys!!! :D

Proj cost me $800, screen cost $250... would have got no more than $500 used, and those couches are worth more than that used! :D:D:D

The loveseat won't fit in the new place and is now for sale! :D

Here's some pics of the new living room, I didn't like the old yellow lemon paint, so I went darker. Should make it better for HT that way.

In pic #2 you can see the 4x width electrical box I installed behind where my stereo is going to go. I still may need to put a box up higher as I'm planning to mount my new TV to a shelf about half way up the wall.

Not sure why I don't have anything posted in here yet of the new house and setup. I still have the same AVR, gone with Yamaha S55s all around for speakers, using one of my SW118's run off a Behringer A500 for a sub.

Using the same SPL meter I hit about 96 dB in the centre of the couch. Probably not the greatest song for an SPL test but oh well (Darude - Touch Me Feel Me). I hate to say this but I actually like the overall sound of this room better than the old house. These little S55s have a great flat sound, and they're positioned more accurately to give a better sound stage than the old setup. Now to dig up some pics...

This is old, speakers are now on stands to have them right at ear level, DVD rack is gone so entire setup is moved towards centre of the room (towards doorway). Oh and that is a 67" Samsung HL67A750 DLP :)

The surrounds are mounted up high directly parallel with the couch. Wanted them about 2' back but front door was in the way. Oh and the sub is behind and to the left of the couch, towards the front door. I just added it into the mix this year, no pics yet. :)
