Please Help: Rack Placement

For those of you that have your gear in a rack, where are you putting it. I know that a lot of people do an in-wall setup, but that is not really an option for me. I do however have a closet directly behind my seating position where I could mount the rack in the doorway. Is there a reason why you would not want to put your rack directly behind your seating position. And if I put it there I was thinking about putting my projector on a self at the top, is this a good idea?

You might have potential problems with noise and/or heat depending on how close the rack will be to you. I don't see any problem in putting the PJ on top but I would mainly be concerned with having proper cooling and ventilation, having all that gear together. Maybe others will chime in.

Your projector can sit on top of your rack as long as its" on the floor"...:D:D

I don't see any reason why not. As has been mentioned, just consider noise floor perceived from nearby components, and consider ventilation. If in a closet, you can always add cheap and quite fans. What is the db rating on your PJ? Mine sits pretty darn close to the heads in the rear row, and you can only hear it every once in a while during a quite scene. I like to crank my movies recently. :D

I think its a great idea to have the stuff anywhere but up front. You can only help improve both video and audio. And it doesn't cost anymore, IMO.

I know you said "in wall" is not an option, but take a look at what I did in my theater. I had a walk-in closet behind my seating. So I went in wall and it works great! It was super easy to do, (you just have to work up the nerve to cut a huge hole in your wall) I also added an air register in the closet so it stays cool in there. It works out great because if you want to make changes to your setup you don't have to crawl behind your rack with a mirror and flashlight, and even with the PS3 running and the DVR fan running its quiet. Unless its really, really not an option I would deffinately consider it.
