Ok this has occurred 3 times since I got the new AVR.

I get no audio or Video when I turn on my Sat. box. I wiggle the HDMI from the box and it clicks on and everything works. I never had an issue with it hooked directly to the display.

Is this a bad cable or a handshake issue? My BJC HDMI should be here by mid-week and I hope this fixes it. I dont have any other spare HDMIs to try out.

Jiggling the cable connection should l not resolve an HDMI handshake issue.
HDMI Connections are venerable and this sounds like a bad connect on the SB or the cable itself. The only way to isolate the problem is with a known good cable and then (if necessary) a replacement SB.

How do you do a direct link like that?
When posting, there's a row of icons above the input text box. On the second row in about the middle, there's an icon that looks like the planet Earth with a chain link under it. Mouse over that icon and it says, "Insert Link".

The way to do it is highlight the word(s) that you want to use for the direct link, click that icon, and input the web address in the box that pops up. Hit okay, and you'll see the highlighted word(s) are surrounded by some more text that indicates the linked address.

See if the sequence of turning things on might make a difference. If you turn the receiver on first when the problems happen, try to turn it on after the cable box.
Since this doesn't happen with the direct to TV connection, I just don't see this as a cable issue.

Isn't there a sequence that you should use? I think I can set my remote to whatever sequence I need.

Close. On some computers, the "http://" that is in the pop-up box isn't highlighted, so you need to delete it before you copy in the new address. Otherwise, you end up with two "http://" strings in the address text, and it won't be a real address.

A little hint...preview your post before you put it up. That way, you can test it out yourself. ;) :) [Yeah, I was being a smart alec.]

I think I have hijacked my own thread!
You have learned the art of the link well, grasshopper. The student has become the master.

Ahhh, I can only dream of someday upgrading to such fine gear. Audio nirvana, thy name is Bose.

No man, I am waiting on the sequence answer that Mtrycrafts was talking about.

What is it with you anyway Adam? I mean, you used to always be on here, then you go missing for 6 months and now you spend 99% of your time on here.

My six month hiatus was caused mostly by my mental association between Emotiva and AH. Got boned on the IPS-1 => took a break from here. I really like the people here, though.

99% of my time, though? Please. It's 98%...tops. :) Besides, me thinks that you're around a lot, too! I was on a lot a couple of weeks ago because I was on vacation. Today, I'm working at home and am checking the forum every now and again.

Just stay on here, you are very helpful....

You are going to have to give me details on the Emo at some point. I have no trust in mine as it had issues from the box with the optical isolator (or something like that) and even after the repair, one light goes on and off from time to time. I feel certain that it wont last long.

Yeah, this HDMI handshake issue is a pain in the a$$.

I have the Oppo HDMI switcher + BJC HDMI cable, and when I hook my Optoma HD81-LV projector to the Oppo HDMI switcher, it doesn't even work. I have to connect the HD81-LV directly to the source.

I just dont think mine is a handshake issue but we will see.

Can someone answer the sequence question already!

And look at the AVR thread under my 3800 post so you can see the size of my volume display (I just added a picture)
