Need some recommendations for an LCD...

Hey guys, my neighbor's envy has finally got the best of him and he wants to get into a decent HT. This is going to be in his bedroom since the kids monopolize the rest of the house. This is what he's looking for:

1) 42"-46" LCD
2) 1080P
3) $1200 -$1800

He's not looking for the very best, but he's hoping to get a decent tv. I was thinking Samsung, but I know there's a lot of you who have a lot more in depth experience on the LCDs. He was asking about 120Hz but I told him I didn't think that was terribly important and I actually have it turned off on my TV.

Any good advice and listing pros/cons would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

That's great info. Do you have any reservations having a "lower" end plasma (meaning not a Kuro) vs an LCD?

1. I wouldn't exactly put a Panasonic in the low end category, i would more so put Kuro in the elite high end category and the Panasonic in the high end category.

2. to decide on the decision between plasma/lcd you need to provide a little more info(viewing distance/ angle, and if his bedroom is very bright or a cave).

3. if he is not looking for the very best he may not need 1080p(does he plan on getting a blueray player). money saved could get him a bigger 720p set or just save him money. of course this depends on how far he is sitting/laying away from the tv. i know in my bedroom i would never be able to tell the difference between 720 and 1080 on a 46" laying in my bed.

That set imo is an excellent value for the money and with great pq, better than any LCD in class.

That's kinda what I meant since it seems that all plasmas seem to be judged in relation to the Kuro.

Their bedroom is cave-like so I don't think glare will be an issue. I'm not sure of the distance but he can't go too big because of the furniture. It'll be in a very large amoire. Based on the dimension of that Panny, it'll fit with about an inch or two to spare.

Thanks a bunch.

FYI - he ordered it.
Great choice! Just make sure he takes it out of "vivid" mode when he sets it up. Vivid mode is atrocious on that set. Cinema and standard look far better with cinema being the most accurate.
