It's kind of funny, everyone here is at Home Depot getting generators, boards and nails and I am getting CL-3 wire so I can re-run my zone speakers.
I'm glad to see that you have your priorities straight!:D

I can see it now.

People on your left going crazy with boards and nails.

People on your right going nuts with generators and flashlights.

People behind you getting essentials and supplies like water, etc.

Now everyone stops and gives you this confused look as you whistle a tune while getting some wires.:D

Doesn't look like the display on the front panel is any better to me. You can go here and click on the larger images.

It's hard to tell from those pictures. The 1500 display changed to a larger numeric one when the volume was changed. Although you can't see it from the picture here:

It's possible that the 1900 and 3900 do this. I haven't seen one for real yet.

Ok, my bad... when you said before about OSD over HDMI and I said no, I thought what you were referring to was for OSD of things like volume and what not. Those obviously don't display over HDMI, but the setup and menus do. Anyway, I hope you are enjoying your new toy.

No, I understood what you were saying, I guess this was a new question.

So far the volume thing is really getting on my nerves. I will check and see if the 1900 or 3900 have addressed this and if it still gets on my nerves after a week, I will change it out for one of the others if they show a larger volume.

I did enjoy watching movies with the new codecs for the first time. I could tell quite a bit of difference.

Greg, I like Yamaha and have a 659 too, but seriously can you return it and get a AVR-3808 instead?:)

But the volume numbers are fine on the 659 so why is it small on the upper models?

Does the 3800 display more information simultaneously? By the way are you sure it cannot display the numbers on the TV screen?

I am not sure but the only time I can get it to so far is when I am using the GUI.

Here is an example of how small the volume display is. This picture is taken from two feet away and the camera is zoomed.

Dang it. I think I got receiver envy now.
I told my wife over the weekend that a new receiver would be like $500 (I was thinking between the HK 254, Pio 1018, maybe the Pio Elite 01 or the Marantz 5003 if I splurge a bit). Then I stopped at Best Buy on the way home and saw a 3800 for $1099. And I start thinking, maybe I can just finance it for 2 years, how easy would that be.
Then I think nah, it's overkill for my system.
Then I see this thread, and I think- you know, I could probably buy it on the way home from work and my wife would never need to know it was over $500...

$1099? I can't see where BB (or Mag.) carries the 3800. If so and at that price, I need to know so I can get my dealer to give me 100 bucks back.

Even the auth online dealers have it listed at $1,599.95.

I saw it at a Magnolia in BB in Woodbury, MN. It had a clearance tag for $1099, I didn't ask about stock, so I guess they could just be selling the demo unit for that, I'm not sure. The sales guy I talked to more or less poo-poo'd the 3800 in comparison to the newer, cheaper Elites, much to my surprise.
