PS3 and SACD, wich model to buy ?

From a recent thread here on the Transformers Blu-ray, it seems like the sound might not be anything spectacular. I thought that it was great on the regular DVD. Just a note for ya, not a suggestion to skip the movie. I think that you'll still find it pretty cool. If you haven't seen the movie, it's definitely worth watching, IMO. I liked it a lot.

Hey all,

Finally, yesterday my PS3 arrived
Done all the initial setup/software update (v2.42 I believe), didn't change anything (settings) just yet but I've got a question for yall.

I ended up getting Spiderman 3 to be the first movie (Blockbuster didn't have much 'flavors' in store) and I did choose Dolby TrueHD, so far so good, sounds awesome, picture is better than ever but my AVR kept showing DIRECT, Am I getting the best ?
I read here before that the PS3 can't bitstream that codec or something like that, I didn't pay much atention back then but here I am.

Anyone out there who could help me out with this ?

You should probably set your PS3 to output audio "LPCM." What receiver do you have?

Onkyo TX-SR805 and yes, the PS3 is set to LPCM.

I have the 80gig PS3 that outputs SACD with HDMI. It is a very nice unit and I love the speed with which it can access the various layers from CD to SACD Stereo/Multi. Sony has created a very nice machine for the money.

Just a concern... Have you updated the firmware on your Onkyo?

Is this the series that was having issues with the sound and HDMI? Or was it only when bitsteaming?

Just something I remembered reading somewhere.

Well, I was listening to Dire Straits in SACD last night and I loved it, not that my Oppo DV-980H outputing DSD didn't sound any good, in fact, I couldn't tell the diference.

Firmware .... as far as that go I believe the TX-SR605 was the one having issues, I'll double check it.
