Help with subwoofer thump

In my bedroom system I have a Yamaha RX-V663 and a Dayton Sub-120 12" sub. Every time I change inputs on the receiver, or change tv channels or radio stations, or pretty much do anything there is a thump coming from the sub. At first I thought it was just the plate amp, but the original amp fried and I sent it in and the replacement amp did the same thing, so I thought maybe all of these amps do that, but the 10" dayton sub my friend has doesn't exhibit this problem, and it too is running off a lower model Yamaha receiver. So I spoke with at tech at parts express who said it was being caused by the muting circuit in the receiver, and he said that some receivers don't have one. Well I would find it very hard to beleive the Yamaha doesn't have a muting circuit in it that would prevent a subwoofer thump, so I just sent Yamaha an email to see what they have to say about it. Maybe my receiver has a problem and needs to be replaced, I hope not, but at this point I'm pretty sure it's not an issue with the dayton sub. What is the opinion of those here?

I noticed the same thing when I got my PC-Ultra hooked up to my Pioneer receiver. I think it's a combination of the sub amp and the receiver, because I never noticed it with the other sub. I don't hear it unless I have the Pioneer volume turned up pretty loud, and I haven't noticed it for a while - so I don't know if mine is as loud of a "thump" as you are experiencing, or if it was just something abnormal that caught my attention at first.

I'd say check the subwoofer output level on the 663. If you have it cranked up, it might be affecting the effectiveness of the muting circuit.

At first the thump was quite loud, but now it's much quieter, but it's still very noticeable. It happens no matter what volume I have the receiver on, and the subwoofer level of the receiver is either at 0 or +.5 I can't remember, but that is definitely not cranked up. I haven't bothered hooking the subwoofer cable up to the LFE input of def tech towers to see if they would thump, but I may try that to see what happens. I may even lug the 20-39PC+ upstairs to see if it thumps too... I may want to do that anyway just to shake the living hell out of my bedroom :D

Now that's what I'm talkin' about! Lugging subwoofers around just to try them out - no one can question your addiction, my friend. :)

The fault has to be in the Yamaha. Do you hear a faint click in the Yamaha as you change inputs? If not, then there is no muting or it does not work.
