Frequency Fb -----55Hz


So which one will you choose based only on specs and why?

Forget the specs. I would go with whatever center channel is Timbre Matched to these speakers.

Mazersteven is correct the center should match the fronts to maintain timbre ( seamless sound).

I would never buy anything based on specs. Listening is the only way to know.
Also, I agree that timbre-matching with your mains is very important.

Actually that second specs is this particular center that you mentioned. But i needed some blind answers from the specs to see what you guys will say. Anyway i guess I got my answer.
Now i have to go tell the wife that members of the forum said I should buy it.

What about the freq response range? I thought it should be lower maybe to 60 Hz.

No the center channel is mainly for voice and dialog. 60Hz is okay, after all is is not a subwoofer. Your subwoofer will handle the lower frequencies, that unless you want Darth Vader's voice to shake your drinks off the coffee table.

Do you mean 80Hz is ok. The lower end of the range is 80Hz not 60Hz

I agree that the specs are almost worthless. There is no substitution for listening to the possible candidates with your own ears.

Pick up that Wharfeldale center and enjoy!

However, enough of the harmonic series will be present for the missing fundamental to create the impression of hearing the fundamental tone

Summary : If you are 85Hz or above you are in excelelnt shape on the Center Channel

I would look at the EVO 2 and get a listen if you can. I own Wharfedale speakers and I actually went with the Diamond 9.CM over the EVO center. They did update the crossovers in the EVO2 so it may not have the lobbing issues that I heard with the EVO.

Don't get caught up in specs, especially with freq. response when there is no +/- db spec. It's meaningless. Let your ears be the judge.

So I have been thinking of going to get the speaker to test it at home and see how it fits in with my system. I'm not sure if the store will let me. But i will ask anyway.

As for persuading the missus. I guess I will ask her to buy me the center as our 2 year anniversary present. Its this month
