I was an inch away from buying the logitech z5500...read alot of reviews on newegg..and people seem to love them.. but the guys on hardforum.com seem to hate them ..and from the setups i've seen on the site they seem to have alot of more knowledge in home audio then me..same with the people on this site..so i figured i'd ask for a 2nd opinion on what i can get for the money...the setup is for a computer..i'm currently using a creative audigy 2 zs soundcard..which will soon be upgraded to an asus xonar d2..this are the setups i've been recommended so far..

1. Swans M10

2. Behringer MS20 + dayton 10" sub

3. Swan D1080MkII + Dayton 10" sub + Super Pro DAC707SE

4. Audioengine A5 Bookshelf Speakers

5. Panasonic XR57 + Insignia bookshelfs + dayton 8" or 10"

All feedback is appreciated..thanks..

Are you looking for just computer speakers or are you looking to get an audio system that will have a separate amplifier and speakers? Do you want to do 2.1 or 5.1?

Personally I would get an decent receiver like an Onkyo 505/506 or a Yamaha 363 and a set of bookshelfs like KEF iQ series and a sub like the Dayton.

That could all be done for 700.

I don't know anything about Panasonic receivers.

I did recently purchase an Onkyo 506 to add AV gear to my employer's conference room and I paid less than 200. It was reconditioned but had a 1 year warranty.

I also don't know much about the Panasonics, but the Onkyo 506 is one that I also suggest to people. It's going for under $204 new on Amazon, and Amazon has had it for $180 within the past month or two (and they'll price match themselves within 30 days if their price drops after you buy it).

Not to say that it's better than the Panny. I don't know. I just wanted to let you know that they aren't very expensive brand new.

EDIT: As for the other gear, I'd say that the Ushers and the Dayton have good chances of making you happy. It would be best if you could listen to those Ushers first, but they have gotten some good reviews.

I just went to onecall and put this together. I think this would be a great sounding system. I am not familiar with this particular velodyne the have a good rep and that seems like a very good price.

Adding to what highlander said, if I may be so bold: Onkyo 506 is $204 at Amazon.

Thanks. I forgot to look there. I was trying to get a few things from that one place thinking it would be a shipping savings. I'm sure a similar setup could be done there and they do free shipping.:)

I just have a habit of checking Amazon in addition to other places. I have Amazon Prime, so I get anything that Amazon ships themselves in two days for free or in one day for $4. That entices me to check their prices. :)

also just noticed that setup exceeds my budget 236.77

do you think it would be worth it to save the extra cash for it?
