Vintage Large Advent Ones

I have a pair of beautiful walnut Large Advents for sale. As you can see, these are in very nice condition with only a couple of small bumps that aren't very noticeable. Grills are superb. They are in amazing condition given that they were built in 1974! I believe these must have been reconed before I acquired them, as they are in perfect playing condition. Though the cabinets are in good condition, still if I were keeping them, I'd refinish them because of a small difference in finish shading. (One might have been closer to a sunny window.) But it's certainly not needed.

The audio presentation from these is absolutely first rate, with unbelievable low-end extension and a variable tweeter gain switch for personally preferred highs. This model probably was Henry Kloss's crowning achievement, a large step forward from most of the loudspeakers that preceded it. I believe it is one of Stereophile's Top 100 Loudspeakers of all time.

I have linked to one person's review of the Large Advents. Understandably, after almost 40 years since it's development, information is difficult to come by. http://www.epinions.com/content_411298795140

There is currently a pair of these for sale on fleabay (with a bid of $299 currently) that may not be as nice as these. For my Audioholics brethren, I'd like to offer these up at $200 + UPS store packaging/shipping. Paypal is preferred.

You can also see the Advents in this photo of a recent vintage/semi-vintage speaker shootout we had.

If I had room for them, I'd fly to where ever you are & buy them. They don't just sound good, they look good too.

I think you should list where you are located. You're making a good offer with shipping, but for any one near you: it's a REALLY good offer.

I don't remember what I paid for mine, but in today's dollars I'm sure it was well over 1,000.

Thanks for the tip, corey. It's a good idea. Hey, I'm just one state over from you...I'm in Oregon. ;)

Yo, RJ

Mighty fine looking set of Advents you have there. Any idea what it would run to box and ship those to SC, 29617? I have a vintage Scott reciever those would work well with.:) I have really fond memories of a pair of Advents cranking out the Doobies' "The Captian and Me" album. Man, those things were cooking!

RJ, I don't know how I missed your post, on such a nice set of Advents.
They look like they're in great shape, too.
Well, as least I won't have to explain to my wife, where the new speakers came from.:D

LOL. What's the saying? "It's better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission?" You have the right approach, Rick. :D Except in my house...that frequently does NOT work. Forgiveness can be a long and lonely path..........;)

Same here.
Y'know, living in the same neck o' the woods, maybe we can synchronize our transgressions. At least then when we're both in the dog house, we can make it the theater room and suffer our banishment through some good movies.:D

It must have something to do with the northwest air in the female nasal passages.

But you've hit on a great idea. That guy in Bend still has the two PB-13 Ultras. We could snag 'em...and then spend the next month or three watching the ten seasons of SG-1 on DVD. You have the popcorn machine and beverage fridge right there, handy. So we'll be well fed. :)

Lastly, we should change the name of your HT to The Dog House! :D
