Starting a new Setup

I like the idea that Aperion has the 30 day trial. My bedroom is small, it's about 15'x15' so I know I don't need HUGE power..

I'm going to try the Aperion 4B, see how I like it and take it from there.

I figure, i'll add a center and a sub in a few months or so, THEN, when I can, replace the 4B with something else and move the 4B as rear speakers..
Check this about Aperion:

1" Hi Density Fiberboard construction, vs. many companies only use 3/4" Medium Density Fiberboard.

30 day audition with shipping BOTH ways if your not happy.

One year Trade in / Trade up deal. Just keep the packing boxes and you can trade, say the 4B's up to 6B's with full credit on the 4B's. Who else does that? So keep the 4B's or save up a little and trade them in!

The Piano Black is to behold, simply awesome. I hear the same thing about the Cherry looking more like furniture than speakers.

And the customer support is awesome. Very friendly.b

OK..so 4Bs it is. Customer service does go a long way with me...

Now to look for a receiver, and since I'm extremely strapped for cash, I'll buy a low end one since i'm just running 2 front speakers, and in a few months or a year I'll upgrade to a better model.

I appreciate your help with the speakers guys :D

As far as receivers go for the Aperions, how is this? Harman Kardon AVR-154

I'm looking for around the $200-$250 price range unfortunately, this will be upgrading when I turn the 2.0 system into a 5.1

You can get a Yamaha Vx 361 for 199 new. Heck I have one in the box I will sell you for 150 plus shipping. It's 100 watts x 5 and would be good for when you upgrade.....:)

Just don't expect too much bass, your not running a disco with those little guys, but they will sound good! Please keep the packing boxes, the trade in / trade up program is great!

I'm using it for movies and gaming mainly. Would a center channel make a HUGE difference with quality or is the 2 front speakers ok for now?

The center channel will be only dialog and your speakers will produce the music and effects....

Oh, so it would be extremely off balanced if I didn't pick up a center channel?

No not at all, it would only be dialog if you are using a center channel. Your 2 speakers will produce all the sound you need.

Another receiver that I'd suggest considering is the Onkyo TX-SR506 that is currently about $200 on Amazon.

If you are planning to upgrade your receiver as soon as you go 5.1, look for a refurb or used non-hdmi receiver. I paid around $70 for an older refurb Sherwood receiver that works just fine.

Hmm..works for me, I love Onkyo...I'll be playing movies through my ps3 so I can watch blu ray..will this receiver be ok with that?

Cool! You're going to be all set up! Just make sure to get the speaker wires and cables that you'll need, if you don't have them already.

Amazon had that Onkyo for $180 a little while ago. I just suggest that you check their price on it from time to time, as they will credit you the difference within (I believe) 30 days of your purchase.

EDIT: Just saw that you modified your post. The 506 doesn't process the HDMI signal, so it won't extract any audio from it. You would still need to connect a digital audio connection (I think the PS3 has an optical jack). The 506 just acts as an HDMI switcher. Honestly, I don't know if the optical connection can handle the newer audio codecs over bitstream or LPCM...I've got to plead ignorance (I need to start paying more attention to that subject around here).

Hmmm...well I doubt with the speakers I have, optical vs. hdmi will be that big of an issue.

I think this setup is great to start..
