just picked up the pioneer elite VSX-92TXH. Wondering if I should go through the trouble of setting up the 7.1 speaker placement as movies are current only producing at the most 6.1.

Also can I get advice on what my placement should be for my surround & / surround back speakers should be. Be it 5.1 6.1 or 7.1

Does anyone know how to get my reciever when in Stero mode to enable the sub. It only seems to kick in on surround mode

I'll check out the owners manual in a minute, but here's what comes to mind:

1. You'd need to have the receiver's bass management set up so that it would send bass to the sub when only the front speakers are being used. So, either have the front speakers set to "small" (or the equivalent), or have the bass output set so that it gets sent to both the front speakers and the sub.

2. The Pioneer might have a direct mode that bypasses the bass management, which would then send the full bandwidth to your front speakers and not use the sub. You'd want to not be in that mode, if it exists.

I'll check through the manual for this stuff, but wanted to get you started.

Just curious - any updates? Have you gotten the sub to kick in while in stereo mode?

Do you have the speakers and sub set up like I mentioned in point #1 above? If not, then you won't be sending any signals to the sub. If so, what is your crossover frequency set at?

Speaker set-up for sizing and crossover frequency starts on page 47 of the owners manual.

ok I set all my speakers to small and now it kicks in. Although if I leave it like that what happens when I play my movies will that not offset my sound. Is it better to say small speakers even with the towers. Also I tried to save the setting but I think saving is only avalble when you use the autoMCACC

The settings should be automatically saved when you set them.

The MCACC, like most (if not all) auto set-up routines, will set the front speakers to "large" - even if it would be better to send the bass frequencies to the sub. Most people here recommend running the auto set-up and then manually setting the front speakers to "small." The normally recommended crossover frequency is 80Hz based on the THX recommendation (as mentioned in your manual). This won't mess up the sound for your movies.

If you want bass to be sent to both the front towers and to the sub, you can select "Plus" as the setting for the sub within the receiver's speaker menu (see page 48). I'd say experiment with sending bass only to the sub, and then with sending it to the towers and the sub. Decide which one you like the best.

EDIT: Just saw your last post. I'll give you the link for the manual. Hold on...

Pioneer requires a login to get some (or maybe all) of their manuals, so this link might not work for you. If it doesn't, it's really easy to set up an account (it's totally free).

The direct link to your manual is here. If that doesn't work, go to this link to Pioneer's page for your receiver here. Click on "Owner's Manual." You'll probably need to create an account.

Some receivers allow speakers to be set up in each mode, like stereo, if you want sub or not. This should be so since this is a THX receiver. It may not be easy to decipher the manual.
