I'm getting: "DVI/HDMI output is blocked ..." while recording with TIVO

I have the following equipment:
New Sony 40” 40Z4100 LCD HDTV
New Scientific Atlanta 4250HDC cable box
AT&T Series 2 TIVO

Connections:

2-way RF splitter, one to HDTV the other to the cable box.
HDMI cable from cable box to Sony's HDMI #1 port.
TIVO L & R audio and S-Video to Sony's L & R audio & S-Video (Video Line 1 In).

Everything appears to be working fine. Even Sony's TV Guide works. I'm able to record and do PIP but occasionally when I have the TV Input set to TIVO and am recording, the program will record and display correctly for about 30 mins and then I get the message, "Copy Protection The DVI/HDMI output is blocked. Press Exit to cancel. TIVO continues to record but just that message. Sometimes the Exit button on the cable box remote works (removes the warning) and at other times it doesn't.

Nick (tech support) at Oceanic Time Warner here in Hilo Hawaii says it's not the cable box. I say it is because the warning is the same colors (theme) as the cable box's Guide, Setup and Settings, etc. windows.

I have the HD/digital subscription.

Any suggestions?

Thank you,

Kerry

I bet it is a DRM issue, and the program providers don't want any record unit outputting HDMI. The HDCP codes allow them to do that. I bet you will get the signal off your low def analog outputs.

FYI, the resolution should be just as good with a component video connection from the cable box to the display. Consider this for video + stereo or digital audio to resolve the HDMI problem.

Yes, but the new malarkey from Hollywood allows for the automatic downgrade to 480i from the component ports when you get that message.

I also have L & R audio and S-Video Out from cable box to TIVO's L & R audio and S-Video In.

Try to disconnect that Svideo and see what happens, if your issue still presents itself.
