Im not sure id power the aforementioned speakers series with any "receiver" As for flagship offerings, the pioneer SC07 is my new "all in one" favorite.

If we are just talking about receivers, I would say the Yamaha Z11 is the best.

If we are talking about pre-pro + amp, the Denon AVP-A1HDCI + POA-A1HDCI are hard to beat.

Subjectivest ruling: whichever I like the best.:D
Pretty much.

So I guess the OP should clarify.

Do you mean which receiver has the Best Audio Measured Specifications by an Independent 3rd Party? Or Best Video Measured Specifications?

Because "Best" means different things to everyone.

Yet another conundrum...

If money is really no object, you would be looking at separates.

Now, now. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt.

Perhaps some guys just don't want to mess around with too many components and just want the "best" possible single-component solution.

I think the next question for the OP is which blu-ray player is he planning on buying?

If he likes the Yamaha BD, then get the Z11. If he likes the Denon BD, then get the Denon 5308. If he likes that new $2,200 Pioneer Elite BD, then get the new Pioneer Elite flagship receiver.

I'm having a hard time thinking of the RXZ11 in the same class as the 5308 based purely on the video performance.

A few months back HT mag did extensive testing on a wide variety of mid to high end receivers and the Yamaha did not fair well when compared to the Onkyo's and Denon. The Sony products were by far the worst but I was suppressed at the number of tests the Z11 failed. (not on the net yet) Many of these were SD scaling tests but even on the HD side it cuts off the "whiter than white" and "Blacker than Black" data that the others did not. Some say this does not hurt real work viewing but I don't like the idea that they are truncating the data stream.

I would go 5308 right now all the way if it had to be a receiver until we see a review of the SC01.

I have a sony Bluray player. I was looking for a receiver that is the best, basically it has to be 10 times better than the competition. Price is no object i heard something about a $30,000 receiver that is supposedly the best. i have no clue what the brand was though.

Price doesn't equate to best.

Is there a reason you don't want a pre-pro + amp like the Denon AVP + POA, instead of a receiver?

If you want the "Best Price-No-Object", you have to get a pre-pro + amp. And right now, there is none better than the Denon AVP + POA in terms of Specs & Features (TrueHD, DTS-MA, HD Radio, WiFi, Ethernet, ect.).

I have never heard of a $30,000 "Receiver" before. Have any of you guys?:D

I mean @ $30K, we're talking Mark Levinson, McIntosh, Krell, etc., and none of them make "Receivers" that I know of.

Now I'm really having a hard time taking this thread seriously.

In the top eschelon of these thingies, all are pretty much stellar performers. One or another might be incerementally better in one area or another than some of the competition, but no receiver will be "ten times better" than another. Expectations like you have simply don't exist in the real world.

And, I too would be interested in that $30,000 receiver. Please provide some information on this.

I have a Denon 2802 I can let you have for that price, though. They don't make 'em like that anymore. :D

I have no personal experience with McIntosh so I cannot really comment. I'm not really into their esthetic but that has nothing to do with the quality of their products. There are not many true American made electronics so I applaud them for what they do. I have seen that they are using a somewhat rebadged projector from Marantz which they can do as part of that conglomerate. I just hope that they keep their status and don't end up in some chain store in years to come.

I was worried when DM made the purchase, but as with Clarion, Mac tends to run as a seperate entity for the most part (as seen with their inability to keep up with the latest codecs and specs compared to yama, denon, ect ect...)

My pick would be this one;

http://nadelectronics.com/products/av-receivers/T785-A/V-Surround-Sound-Receiver

Its been updated with HDMI and has the best amplifier section of any receiver out there. Not many receivers are 2 ohm stable including the mighty Yamaha. :)
This is nonsense. NAD is the only company I am aware of that still uses IHF as a power rating standard. Of course they also list the FTC rated power (because they have to). If you compare the FTC rating for an 8 ohm load and then the IHF rating it becomes blatantly obvious the IHF rating is extremely optimistic if not impossible. If you where driving a 2 ohm load with that receiver at a reasonable output level that receiver would most likely light up like a match. Dynamic IHF ratings are just for clever marketing.

That NAD is DEFINITELY not the best receiver, for any price.

The only reason Bose doesn't use IHF is because they would have to have the FTC rating accompany it. Therefore, Bose doesn't have published power ratings.:D

I agree whole heartedly with Seth on this Nad cannot compete with Yamaha and Denon or Marantz or Pioneer for that matter.....
