Denon Jeff was saying that Denon will be coming out with a pre-pro + amp separates based on the Denon 4308. I think it will be like the Marantz AV8003 + MM8003 with a different cosmetic and slightly lower price tag.

What do you guys think?

After the craze that occured after the Integra 9.8/885 came out last year I think something in that price range would do very well. People like me waited months to get them. There is still a demand to get a prepro like the 9.8/885 in that 1500-2500 price range. The Marantz is on the high end of that and the 885 is the low. After that you have to make quite a jump to a Anthem or the flagship Denon.

No. Not the exact same, but very similar.

For one thing, all the new Marantz receivers, pre-pro & amp are made in China.

The new Denon receivers, pre-pro & amp are made in Japan (even the new 2309, 2809, etc. are made in Japan).

The Marantz AV8003 pre-pro has 4 HDMI inputs and 2 HDMI outputs, and so does the Denon 4308.

The Marantz MM8003 amp is 140 wpc, and so is the Denon 4308.

The Marantz pre-pro is $2,600, and so I'm guessing the equivalent Denon pre-pro will be around $2,500.:D

Yeah, "Denon" Jeff mentioned this in his PODCAST interview with Gene.

Gene asked if the next pre-pro will be based on the Denon 3808, and Jeff said that it will be based on the 4308. He didn't give any more details.

But every time I look at the Marantz AV8003, I can't help but think, "The next Denon AVP".:D

That's great if it's based off the 4000 series. The Marantz AV8003 seems to be a great unit if you setup your system to circumnavigate its slight quirks. Denon generally produces great products at a slight premium to other brands that I feel is well worth the additional cost.
