Just hooked up this unit and have some questions. Specs and reviews say that it is "2 zone multisource capable". However, I'm not understanding how to setup the 2 zones.

I've read thru the owners manual a couple times, especially the section on "Multi-zone Connections and Operations" and either I'm just not getting it or something is defective with the unit (most likely the first vs. the latter).

I assume "2 zone multisource capable" means I can be watching a movie on zone 1 and listening to radio on zone 2. Am I way wrong?

For reference, here is the owners manual: /usa.denon.com/AVR-588-OM-E_102.pdf

Anybody have any tips?

Welcome to the forum!

No, you're correct. You can listen to two difference sources. One thing, though, is that sources connected to the receiver using the digital audio inputs (optical or coax) can't be played in multi-zone.

How do you have things hooked up for the second zone?

Also, check out page 37 of the manual and make sure that you aren't in the "REC OUT" mode - that might be messing you up a bit.

Thanks.... it ended up two things:

1. I had HDMI cable running from Denon to Monitor. I thought this would pass all video thru but it would not pass the DVD or Gaming video thru. I had to use standard video cable instead.

2. Getting multi-zone to work was just a matter of education and getting the feel for the remote control.... what a mindjob that thing is. Nice guy at Circuit City showed me how todo it and all is well with it now.
