Ideas for $2K budget....help!

I currently have a 60 inch Hitachi Plasma hung on the wall that I have had for 2 years along with a Bose 3-2-1 system, which basically sucks. I am ready to get some quality sound in my family room.

The room is relatively open with three full walls and the fourth having a 12ft opening, 16 x 19 with 7.5 ft ceiling. I have been looking around mostly at Onkyo systems, but am having a hard time coming up with a good configuration. I am not opposed to tower speakers, althouth my wife probably is. I am looking for a receiver for Sirius, Ipod hookup, and watching movies.

Here is what I have come up with so far all from B&H:
Speakers/Sub Infiniti TSS-1200 $650
Blue Ray Panasonic DMP-BD30K $350
Receiver Onkyo TX-SR706 $799

It is mind boggling how many combinations there are out there. I am abviously not a true audiophile (Bose?), but I do want to put in a good all around system.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Stezo

Go listen to as many speakers as possible and see what sounds best to you. Once you have picked out speakers, then the AVR will be easy.

HT Budget

Your total HT budget is reasonable but consider reallocating the funds.
The above recommendations are good options along these lines.

Speakers: $1k+ for 5.1 bookshelf system from SVS, AV123, or check out your local dealer for Paradigm, Energy, Klipsch Reference, etc.

Receiver: $4-500 for the Onkyo 606, Yamaha RX-V663 or comparable.

BluRay: Hold off for now to get better speakers. If you want BluRay, get a PS3 on sale over the holidays.

Then get yourself an Onkyo 805 on clearance for ~$500 or less.
If you're talking about the ecost deals that ADTG has been posting, that does not include shipping. Even if myself use a refurbed 805, I would've sprung for $40 to get it brand new. Warranty was thrown in for those who worry about Onkyo. I never care about warranties, unless its a silly deal as with my Mack warranty.

Oh, wow, I did not realize you could get a BRAND NEW Onkyo 805 for only $580 with FREE SHIPPING @ B&H Photo!:D

Okay, my bad. Scratch those eCost.com links.

No need to feel embarrased ADTG!

I only found out, because I thought your links were superb deals. So, I started sending others that way, and since were seriously going to buy one, they investigated a little more thoroughly, and did let me know what was what.

I was not at ALL trying to criticize your helpfulness. Just explaining why I linked what I lined. :)

Now go find us some deals on a Denon AVP.

Go! Git!

Hey ADTG, since you are one the bigger fans, just curiously, is this a good deal for prospective buyers? I just received this email ad:

DT BP6

I could walk into my local DT dealer right now and order the BP6 for $280 + tax = $300 each.

So I don't think $400 each (free S/H) is a good deal.
