PS3 problems with Blu-ray

It's been about 3 months since our PS3 was repaired by the manufacturer. The first time it simply stopped reading discs. Now it just has a lot, LOT of problems with Blu-ray titles. I have the 40GB PS3.

Are there more reported incidents like this? It's spinning me into a world of uncontrolled rage at the moment. It might just find itself flying out my window if it doesn't stop being.....nevermind.

Anyway, could this be related to a recent firmware update? Is it possible the PS3 isn't all it's cracked up to be. Is it possible they could just leave the PS3 alone unless they know their firmware is good?

Update: The PS3 will no longer load the disc "Street Kings" on blu=ray. I am getting a message from the PS3 "this is an invalid disc (80029906)", which is BS because it was playing a few minutes ago.

I wonder if there have been any official press releases from Sony concerning this issue. It's really pissing me off. I can't believe that we are going to go through this a SECOND TIME! For a system that's supposed to be much more reliable than the 360 and that our PS3 is handled and maintained much better than any PS3 I see pass thru the pawn shop, I just can't believe this horse manure. I hate to be a complete a-hole when talking to customer service at Sony, but I don't think I will be able to contain myself.

Yea, one reliable poster mentioned certain batch(es) might have had QC issues with the 40G version. Just what I read from a bd software forum regular at AVS. I was following this thread because the OP was someone who had given some advice in setting up my HT.

Its only hearsay for me, but I guess you can PM them, or search.

Seriously, these aren't $40 DVD players bought at Love's truck stop. These are $400+ machines that should work. The good news is that Sony and Panasonic have been decent about repairs.

Get an 80G! I have only had one update make my system not work right and a subsequent update fixed that the next day (and even that was a minor issue).

I would definitely tell them to replace it at this point, since it sounds like a similar if not the same issue.

I am glad you have a sense of humor about it. However, I don't find it to be funny coming from you for some reason.

The lense is shot according to my research, it's a common problem. The first time the PS3 bricked was the drive, it just stopped loading period. Now it's the diode.

We'll see about getting it replaced, but I think the LEMON rule only applies if it's 3 times. So we can just hope it gets fixed and doesn't have anymore problems or that it bricks a third time before the warranty is up. I guess I will have to play GTA4 excessively now.

What, you don't like people that visit the forum once a month just to dis owners of the PS3?

It's really unfortunate that you hit this minority, but it's gotta be someone who ends up with the bum unit. Give them a call or email, then let us all know how they treat you. I am grateful that my opening day PS3 60GB has been working flawlessly since day one and has only gotten better since the day I bought it. I wish everyone could have the exact same luck, but with millions of units out there, stuff is gonna break.

There is no such thing as 100 percent reliability. Sounds you simply have a lemon. You need to get them to replace it entirely - not just repair it - it sounds like. Or, if they repair it again, sell it immediately. That's all I can suggest.

That is just bad luck. A friend of mine has the PS3 60GB. It just broke too. Wouldn't play anything. Every time I hear any BD unit going bad, it just makes me nervous. At least the PS3 isn't $2,000!

I hope you get it all straightened out, I'm sending my PS3 in for repair/replacement. If yours is still under warranty, just fill out the form online and they will send you the coffin to mail it back in for free, and you don't have to pay for shipping either way. Mine didn't have any issues with blu ray, it just keeps dropping the blue tooth sycn with the remote and/or controller.
