speaker placement in relation to my room (PICS)

sorry its crude but i think its close the items are prolly bigger on the drawing in relation to scale.

i have 3 av123 c-cs speakers. one of which will be a center and the other two will be fronts until i get my towers.
the sub is a ed a2-300.

thoughts and suggestions on placement.

I never tried your first option, but I guess if you put the speakers in that position, the soundstage would be forward from the screen. It would be detached from the picture, something like when you use headphones.

I guess your second option is the best, but try to listen to the sub in different positions.

any other suggestions ? im thinking 2 will work best for the fronts but what about hte sub ?

The position of the mains is definitely better in your second diagram, yes. But the location of the sub is less critical. Assuming you have a long enough sub cable, you can experiment with locations pretty much anywhere in the room. Try to stay away from room corners, as that will cause boominess in the sound. Try the "crawling for bass" technique -- place the sub in your prime sitting location, then crawl around the room and listen for the smoothest, clearest bass. That will be the best spot for the sub. I agree with the others: option 2 is better than option 1, and experiment with the sub placement.

Why guess???

I highly recommend you try both. Just connect very long speaker wire, with plenty of slack. LEAVE THAT SLACK installed for at least a couple of months, just in case.

You might get better imaging with the second. You might not. OTOH, I find that having space away from the sidewalls is more beneficial than space from the back wall. Speaking of which, are your speakers rear ported? Are you against acoustic panels on the sidewalls? Something to think about.

I second crawling for bass.
