I'm looking at buying a new home theater receiver to replace > decade old poineer prologic. After doing my homework online, I have come down to 2 choices. The Denon AVR-1609 ($400) or the Onkyo TX-SR-606 ($650). The main feature difference between the two is the Onkyo has TrueHD support and the Denon does not. My question is, is the TrueHD support worth the extra $250, and are their any other recievers I should be considering in this price range? Thanks!

What speakers are you running? Also preouts for future amp upgrades are nice:D

Do you have access to a Yamaha 663 or Pioneer 1018?

The Denon AVR-1906 doesn't have any HDMI audio or video processing, it's no comparable to the Onkyo. The Onkyo also has really good power benchtest results (it just falls under it's ACD rating (not common with most manufacturers). The Onkyo's overall features, power, and connectivity are not comparable to the Denon.

The Onkyo does tend to run a tad warmer than the competition, but I would just put a fan on it and call it a day if you have to.

You can buy the Onkyo 805 for about the same price as the 606. It's a much better deal.

I have access to both. After reading reviews on the Yamaha 663 it seems like a much better option than the two I had mentioned. It can be had for $550 around here. A feature I didn't think I would be able to afford is pre-amp outputs, which is available on the 663. Thanks! :)
