Sound Reproduction:
The Acoustics and Psychoacoustics of Loudspeakers and Rooms
by Floyd Toole

At $45 it's a bit pricey, but for those who don't know, Floyd Toole is THE leading expert at how to scientifically determine listener preferences in audio reproduction. His work with blind listener tests set the standard for the field.

Read the product synopsis and the single customer review by Siegfried Linkwitz. I like where he says, "(this book) debunks much of the BS that seems to have permeated the audio industry and many of its customers."

It's going on my wishlist.

Having read all of the Harman International White Papers, by Floyd, I would recommend that book w/o even reading it. The WPs are of great value in learning about audio and I'm sure the book just gives you more.

I don't know if I've read all his white papers, but I agree with your recommendation :). Now if we could only make it required reading for all the cable manufacturers ;).
It made our list and we got an advance copy:

I haven't read the whole thing but he turns several "industry standard" items on their ear as it were. He doesn't shake things up as much as when they (Harman/THX/et al) basically stopped recommending "live end, dead end" rooms, but it's got some whammies.
If I had realized that you were also selling this book, I wouldn't have linked that "other" book seller .

While I have not read this book I have read every article written by Toole and published in the JAES. It is likely this book is a summary of his previous published works as well as his presentations from AES conferences.

If one is interested in truly learning about human perception of audio as well as loudspeaker-room interaction there is no better source than Toole's AES articles. I will most likely be purchasing the book. When I do I will be sure to compare it to the AES articles information.

Pre-ordered it. Received it. Reading it. Loving it. :D

One of the things that I find wonderful about the book is the references, certainly Floyd Toole is a very clever person who has done a very great deal for sound reproduction, but he could obviously not apply his talent to every nook and cranny of perceptual research, and so has provided references for the reader to find further current and historic useful information on various topics.

I have the book and am slowly working my way through it. Toole is a class act and writes very well. This book should be read by anyone wanting to have the best possible sound quality within their budget. It's a must have.
