Currently on the fence as what to put in my theater in terms of a sub. I have had a Sunfire Super Junior and Velodyne SPL-1500r in the past but was thinking of upgrading to a more top end sub like one of the Digital Drive series or trying a pair of the MiniVee 10's as I can geta great price on those right now. From everything I have read, the mulitple sub setup will be the way to go....

Looking for input on the idea of two MiniVee 10's or any other suggestions you might have....cheers!!!

Well its a loft and the room is 15' wide 20' long and 16' high....so it has a large volume. Though my spl-1500r was more than enough with a corner placment. I wanted to keep it under $1800....

I had actually considered the SVS....have you heard this unit??

No I haven't had the opportunity to hear an Ultra. I have the SVS PB12-Plus/2. And since the Ultra had more output them the Plus/2. I would say that it would be awesome in your size room.

The SVS products certainly seem to be at the top of thier game...and the Ultra would certaily be enough...

I am still considering the dual setup as one will most certainly yield a more uniform responce across the listening area with the dual subwoofers....it's too bad I cannot afford two Ultras....lol. Although I would have to reinforce the walls with two of those monsters....

I also like the size of the MiniVee 10's as they have a fairly petite footprint in the scheme of subwoofers....

Also keep in mind that SVS's customer service is second to NONE. That is, the customer service and attention to detail is as good as the products they make. This is why SVS is so successful and make such top-notch products. Personally, I was blown away at the individual attention they offered me. You just can't go wrong with SVS imho.

Cheers,

Phil

And I have heard this about the customer service at SVS as well....but now I still am looking to see if anyone has any ideas with the notion of the dual sub setup....without a doubt the PB13-Ultra is an extreme piece of engineering....

However, does anyone have any inclinations towards a dual sub setup that would be similar in output but yield the more uniform response that a multiple sub setup provides...???

2 ultras:D If you measure your room response and find that you would benefit more from dual subs(or quads) you could always do 2 sb12/plus. If your going to use multiple subs, look into using an extrenal crossover in conjuction with software like rew

If you are looking for a small pair of subwoofers that are high quality there really aren't too many high quality options in the commercial world. If you have minimal wood working abilities a high quality pair of sealed subwoofers using the JL Audio 8W7 in a sealed 0.7 cubic foot box would yield superb results. While this unit will not have the output or low reach of an SVS Ultra due to smaller size and sealed configuration it will be capable of achieving about 100dB at 30Hz and well over 100dB above 50Hz up with no audible distortion in either case, of course. This recommendation is presuming you want the smallest possible footprint while keeping two subwoofers within your budget.

If you went this route using an EP2500 amp would be a good choice. Also, a DCX2496 would be ideal for use as an equalizer as well as protection filter at 30Hz to ensure the driver is not over extended.

If you are not interested in building your own subwoofer and still want a pair of subs looking at the other, less expensive, SVS offerings would be a good choice. SVS has a good record of releasing subwoofers at good price points that measure very well relative to other companies.

All of these sound like good ideas....and I really appreciate all of the input....

Now I ask if you had the choice between two MiniVee 10's or a DD-12 what would you rather go with????

I know we had been kicking around the Ultra13 idea....but really the price of the Ultra13 is a bit high for me....I can get two MiniVee 10's for $1300 or a DD12 for $1400...

Would two of the SVS SB-12 Plus be a better option for a multisub over the MiniVee 10's as I have decided that I definately want to go with the multiple sub configuration....

Hmmm....you know I have never ever ran into these products before....I will have to read up a little more on them....however they do look a bit big for placement. Another reason why I like the SVS SB-12+ as well.....

But the more I read the more I am inclined to go with two of the SB-12's over the Velo's.....

The SVS SB12 definitely has a small footprint, but big on performance. Big on performance in a medium to small room.

The MFW-15 subwoofers are new to the subwoofer world. But have already made their impact felt. These would be my choice if looking for dual subwoofers for HT.

Sub options

I have one of the SVS SB12-plus subs in my living room HT. It is compact, looks good, and sounds good. However, don't expect too much output below 20 Hz. If size and asthetics are important factors, then 2 of these would work great.

If the want to "feel" the bass in your dedicated movie room, then consider dual MFW-15s or other large ported subs for your room.
