Need Help With Stereo Cabinet

Hello everyone. I am in the process of building a stereo cabinet for my living room. It will house stereo equipment, as well as some multimedia. It will sit under a wall mounted 50” plasma TV. My design is done, and now it’s time to source materials. I haven't had enough posts to include a link or image, but it is similar to the StudioTech Ultra U-22T.

My version will be somewhat different, but I will incorporate the black metal mesh screen. The idea is I want it to look fairly solid from a distance, yet allow remote controls to operate the stereo components behind the mesh.

Has anyone used this type of design, and can you offer suggestions on where to source the metal mesh screen? Thanks.

Ever thought of storing your equipment in a closet close to the TV? All of my equipment is remote located in a different room to keep it clean. Its a bit of work, but the only real cost involved is an infrared repeater, which is around $100 IIRC.

I like the idea, but it wouldn't be very practical in my case. I have a lot of speaker wire run to the current location, and don't have a closet that's very close by.

No problem... just thought I would mention it. Good luck!

Glad I found this thread. I just looked at the StudioTech Ultra U-22T. What a fine stand! You must have some skill to build something similar to that. Recently, I made a simple stand for my speakers and components. I wanted to use metal mesh to cover up part of the stand but didn't know where to get it, so I used fabric instead. The fabric I used cost $1 a yard at Walmarts. I like the way it turned out. Maybe it's something you can use. Here are some pictures of my simple stand.

Thanks for the input. I suppose I could look for black fabrics. My design will have a section in the middle to house a center speaker, and it will be covered with black speaker fabric. It may be another month before I have it built, but I will post some pictures when it’s finished. Yours looks very nice!
