any owners of this sub out there ever experience the fuse repeatedly burning out without the sub even havig a chance to actually turn on? i own this sub a week(2nd owner; sub is 7 months old). it played all right for a few days then suddenly wouldn't come on. i checked the fuse and it was blown. i changed it and turned the sub on and nothing happened. i then checked the new fuse an that one's blown. i tried 4 fuses and a row, each time plugged into a different outlet and they all blew! i own a klipsch sub, jbl sub, and klipsch computer sub all for 10 years and never had a problem with any of them. are SVS subs in general considered reliable?

I'd actually say they are more reliable than most mass market subs I've seen. It clearly sounds like the sub is damaged, either the driver or the amp and that is causing the issue. I would contact them and let them know that you are the current owner if you haven't already and get what is left of the warranty in your name and see if they will help you out. I had the PB-10 for a year and I really put it through its paces and it never once had an issue.

Obviously the sub has a major problem. I hope you have some warranty left. This likely will be expensive otherwise, I suspect a solid state device in the power supply or output of the amp has failed. DO NOT replace the fuse again, you will do more damage. Any solid state device can fail, and SVS do not make them.

On top of this we have this RoHS compliance issue, so that everything made since June of 2006 has to have lead free solder, which is inclined to sprout whiskers and cause short circuits. The peak time for the expected trouble is anticipated to be 1 to 2 years from the date of manufacture, however these whiskers can sprout anytime, and the clock does not run out.

I'm on the look out for signs of increased failure rates starting to show up. I think this will be hard to get a handle on. In particular I suspect a lot of units will be recycled without an attempt to find the cause of failure. I have a strong suspicion this is the next raw deal for the consumer.
