Hello all,

Today is a happy day. I just purchased my first B&W speakers today. They are B&W 684 the main for my fronts.

They sound great.

I was wondering if you guys could suggest some woofer that would match my system. It doesn't have to be B&W.

As far as budget goes... dont go over $300-$400..

thanks

How big is your room, and are you doing HT or 2ch?
If you can up your budget to 600-650 you would be getting imo into a much better sub for a small incremental price increase. There is some opinions in this thread with a couple in your original budget.

Just my opinion but you may want to consider upping your subwoofer budget. The subwoofers I like best are SVS, but they start at $429 for the PB10-NSD and this might not be big enough if you take your room size into account.

If you stick stricky in your budget then Hsu makes very good subs also. The
STF-2 is $349 but it is only for mid-sized rooms http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/stf-2.html

Your B & W are very nice speakers!;the sub woofer doesn't need to match. It is better to wait and buy a good sub. If you buy an inexpensive sub you will realize you have a cheap sub and will wnat to upgrade. Good Luck

gokou,

What dimensions is the room the sub will be going into. And are there any large opening to other areas of the house from that room?

Congratulations on your new B&Ws gokou. They are very nice and I am sure you will enjoy them. I would wait a little while and try to save some cash and buy a decent sub since you now have a Great set of mains......Enjoy

Congrats on the wonderful speakers!

Room dimensions and overall bass goals would be paramount in determining proper choices for you.

dude i love you signature :D, i also agree room dimensions are important unless you want to go for a multi sub system, and learn from my mistake wait a little longer save a little more and get those speakers you really want.

A sub is a important addition and can last a lifetime if you choose the right one from the beginning.

the room is 12 x 12, but with 2 open walls. One leads to entrance, one leads to kitchen. lol...it's a small apt.

Currently, I am doing 2ch only. that's why i am searching for the .1 woofer. Eventually I want a HT setup when I get my dream home. (praying)

If your receiver has a variable crossover the pb10 from svs would be a good choice, the next model up gets into the 600 range, and then there are a couple of other choices there. The other in your range is the A3-300
which has a built in crossover. The svs would my choice at the dollar, and i havent heard the ed 300, but have the 350. If your limited to B&M stores, let us know the brands you have access to. Others will chime in whith a couple of suggestion

I too would suggest taking a look at the SVS PB-10. It is a great sub for the money.

Some other value options with that size room would be:

The Dayton/HSU 12" from Parts Express.

If you don't mind a little bit of simple assembly the Dayton Titanic 10" kit.

If I come up with some more I will let you know.
