If I use the 663 instead of the one they recommend for my PS3 and HDTV, Can you really get good sound from a set up such as this even with dirt cheap components?

I have a small apartment and really don't have a lot of money but I don't want to regret one of those HTIB setups. Can this set up beat a "good" $500 HTIB?

What do you guys think?

What you have show is a typical component system with separate Preprocessor and separate power amps; usually they are much more expensive than an integrated AVR.

The 663 is a great place to start. First just get some good front speakers. Here are some inexpensive ones for $219, Cambridge Audio S30 http://spearitsound.amazonwebstore.com/Cambridge-Audio-S30-Speakers-Black/M/B00198LYMU.htm?utm_campaign=froogle&utm_medium=organic&utm_source=froogle

Then think about adding a good SVS sub ( $429); you can buy less expensive subs, but you get just that a cheap sub.

Good luck! ;)

I don't see the benefit of using the Sherwood amps over the internal amps of the 816-K, especially in a budget speaker situation. The only reason to use separate amps would be if you have or plan to acquire speakers that are low impedence or very low sensitivity. In a budget speaker situation, most if not all mass market speakers will be 8 ohm, easy to drive and perfectly suitable for any decent receiver.

I agree with Yettitheman, crack does strange things.
