****WARNING THIS IS A VERY LONG QUESTION****

well, i am a newb! i just got a hometheater system, and i want some people to stop bad mouthing it!!! actually only one of my cousin:( Okay last month i started to look for a home theater system for my PS3 so i asked two of my cousins and the local bestbuy for help on buying something, and i also used some of my knowledge. so i had gotten all my help in three days. one of my cousins has a b&w system and a HK system. he said he spent around 10 grand on it so he gave me good advice i guess(hes real nice and not bias)... He recommended a Harman Kardon reciever and good speakers(polk, klipsch, jbl etc.) while my other douchebag cousin told me the HK is the best way to go(now that i have it he says its junk, he himself has a samsung hometheater in a box haha its crappy and old) and when i went to the bestbuy i got a rep to help me so he let me listen to different systems and i got the one i liked the most. Which was a Harman Kardon AVR-247 receiver and 5.1 Harman Kardon Speakers (HKTS-11) not everything was from bestbuy so you cant say i fell in a trap. well my douchebag cousin says that my system is **** and that is should have gotten a yamaha system. well he throws stats at me all the time like dolby true hd dts hd etc. "**** HE READS IN MAGAZINES". but i think my reciever sounds great with my speakers and woofer. well he has no clue about audio as it is and i know that cuz he didnt know what a tweeter was hahahah. so gimme some thing to throw at him please...... i am looking for stuff that makes me look smart and that can shut him up. also he likes polk more than klipsch so i need something to shut him up there as well.

PRODUCT SPECS IF YOU NEED THEM
sorry cant post the link cuz the site wont allow me but if you type AVR-247 in google you get a harman kardon website link just go there and click and specs. same for the HKTS-11

Welcome to the forum!

I don't know if this will shut him up, but here's my philosophy: It's your system, and you're happy - BAM, done.

Why care if he likes something else better? If you think that your system sounds great, then that's all that matters. HK makes good stuff. So does Yamaha. Hard to go wrong with either one.

Sorry if that doesn't give you the ammo that you were looking for, but it's what I'd tell him. :)

If he has a 'crappy old HTIB', your receiver is far superior with much lower distortion levels and greater load capacities.

Also let him know that as far as 5.1-in-a-box speakers go, yours are pretty high quality; it's extremely likely that your speakers are better, and even more likely your system as a whole is better.

ps these arguments aren't worth having, as Adam says.

I agree with this especially.

Throw in things like 'amplifier headroom' and 'frequency response' as well as 'distortion levels' and 'load capacity'. If he's as unbased as he appears, perhaps some of this will quell him.

Edit; better yet, why wasn't it the first thing we thought of; drop phat bills on an *** pounding system.

Hee, hee! Good one!

Either that or spend that cash on hiring someone to pound some a$$ on your "douchebag" cousin. :D

Your HK doesn't appear to support the latest "lossless" surround sound formats, which your PS3 could output. Oh, well. Do you care? My receiver won't do them either, but I still sleep at night. Most of the time, anyway.

You want to shut your cousin up? Get a sub. A good sub. An amazing sub. There are plenty out there, but may I recommend this one? It's what I have. Should make him sit there with his jaw stuck open.

Well, that...or just enjoy your system and tell him to kiss off. Either way... :)

"Spend a lot of money on a really great system."

That's my interpretation, anyway.

Education is overrated. You can have too much schooling, but you can never have too much bass. :)

Just kidding! It's great that your going to the university. Compared to my college system, yours is absolutely phenomenal. Enjoy it!

My education in Canada is cheaper than yours but electronics are much more expensive, all most everything is:(
