Really... and I mean REALLY scary movies!

Man! I can't seem to find a movie that really gets my backbone all cold and straight. I found the Grudge (Japanese Ju-on) series to be quite good. Really liked the concept. Also the Ring. But I can't find any movies that are scary.

Saw the usual: Exorcist, Nightmare, Friday13th, Texas Chainsaw, etc...

Doesn't do it. Some people recommend movies like Ichi the Killer, but that movie isn't scary it's more comedy mixed with bizarre gross stuff.

I guess that it depends on what makes your skin crawl. This? :)

[As Rickster would quote, "Not that there's anything wrong with that."]

I was going to link to a movie about commitment and marriage, but I was too scared to do a search on those...

I thought for sure it was a link to Brokeback Mountain. :D

Scary movies are hard to come by. The Grudge with that kid in the death mask make up crawling around under the sheets was just wrong. A really scary part was in TLOTR when Bilbo made that grab for the ring ... ugh ... Again with that make up! Somehow I don't enjoy having the crap scared out of me.

I think the one that got me the most was Exorcist 3. Something about it just creeped me out.

Of course I haven't seen Buttcrack Mounting yet.:)

The second time you watch it is worse than the first. :)
:eek::eek: What the? Second time?!? :D

I've never seen it, though. For all I know, it's the quintessential love story of our time.

Back to scary movies, I will be of no real help. My imagination runs wild, and horror movies freak me out for years, so I don't watch them.

The Orphanage is a good one because it is more of a classic style horror, where it is more of that unknown factor than out-and-out shock/gore. More creepy than scary.

The Grudge isn't really that scary, though it was decent. A couple of scenes were really good :) I found Ju-on, as mentioned the Japanese original, to be much more disturbing. The Japanese version of Dark Water and The Ring were also much better than the US remakes.

The Descent was surprisingly good too. The sense of claustrophobia is ever present and it conveyed it well IMO. Not a great movie overall, but good creepy factor and excellent transfer on BD.

I still find the original Exorcist pretty freaky - "The Version You Haven't Seen" version is the best. Poltergeist is another one that is a lot of fun but still has a good "I would have crapped my pants if that happened to me when I was a kid" factor. It is scheduled for BD release in October.

There were a few movies that scared me as a kid, but none since around 20 or so. I think we lose the ability to forget that it is a movie, which makes it hard to be scared by it.
One thing is certain: explicit violence (eg Hostel) is gross and upsetting, not scary.

Darkness Falls is only scary at the beginning, IMO. After that it pretty much became a typcial horror movie. EXCELLENT sound on that movie, and worth that alone for the price.

I still enjoy Se7en. Can't wait for them to release that on BD.

Haha. Someone is scared of clowns. :D
Yeah, I guess i was. It was a great movie.

Anyone who likes the disturbing side of things should read the books: Red Dragon, Silence Of The Lambs, and Hannibal.

Thomas Harris has a way of capturing the little things that make you cringe.

Peace,
Tommy

IMO, it was a good movie that ended up with the weirdest ending that had seemingly nothing to do with the rest of the movie...

Recently rewatched: The Shining. Good, but a lot scarier when I was younger. Looks great on BD.

I love scary movies, but I haven't seen any impressive ones in a long time.
