Oh dear i opened a can of worms!

Well, I'd have to listen again, but Daryl had mentioned they played Duke at the Rock honors.. and he said they opened with a instrumental etc (from memory here). They actually only played Turn it on Again, No son of Mine, drum duet - Los Endos.. so I think he must of meant Los Endos which is obviously not from Duke.
You had mentioned I think that you loved how they kicked off the show with Duke, when I know you meant Behind the Lines (which is on the Duke album, duke is not a song title)... then you got I think confused and mentioned how much you loved them mixing Cinema show with duke etc.. when actually Cinema show came in after and as part of the In the Cage Medley.
So, beginning of show is Behind the lines/dukes ends, and later the medley is In the Cage/Cinema show/Riding the scree (sped up some ala 3 sides live)/dukes travels/Afterglow.

Sorry to be nit picky.. but you asked! Oh, they way I see it is this: If I were to interview him... I would probably confuse so many things from shear excitement!

No big Gene, great interview!! Thanks for it.

Now Mike runs for cover....
By Duke, I meant the main song from the album Duke but I can see what you mean . I always referred to Behind the Lines as Duke since I was a kid. Also at the end of Cinema Show if I am not mistaken, they blend it into the last song from the Duke Album via an instrumental when they usually instead do Musical Box.

Hey if Daryl can't get it right, what hope do I have? :)

It always amazes me how the guys from the band can't remember certain things like what they played at a special event.

You are correct on Cinema Show... Duke's end follows it, then Afterglow.

Somewhere in there I think you mentioned how cool it was that they started out with Behind the Lines as the opener (that's where you referred to it as Duke)... anyway, I had always thought that that instrumental would be the best show opener, and low and behold, they opened with that song on their tour. Pretty good stuff.

Yes though I did miss the words in the opening song which makes Behind the Lines so powerful. Come to think of it, I think I will listen to Duke on SACD tonight. :D

Yes I do miss the lyrics in Behind the Lines as well, but at least we got the 2 minute instrumental! I did however really miss the lyrics in the section of Duke's Travels.. shame Phil didn't sing that whilst drumming that bit.. but Daryl did rip the guitar pretty good in place of the lyrics.

You know, I think I'm going to listen to Duke tonight on SACD as well. Excellent album all around I think. I really enjoy the opening through Guide Vocal.. and I like how they essentially recapped the album in Duke's Travels/End with 'Guide Vocal' sped up, and Behind the lines sped up etc... very cool I think!

Finally was at a Walmart over the weekend so hunted this out. It was disappointingly hard to find. Took my wife and I almost 10 minutes to find it. I finally found a copy in the music dvd section under B, maybe for Banks.

I was a little worried it might feel like their last tour rehashed, but boy was I wrong. The stage, lights, and crowd were all impressive. My wife even came in and sat down to watch a while, not sure how much of their music she really knows (she's pretty much country). Of course her first question was "Why is Phil Collins playing drums?". She was quite impressed by the audience shots, however I did lose her about half way through In the Cage.
Later I found she had the bedroom door closed on the other side of the house, apparently I was playing it a bit loud...

Overall I was really impressed with it, and it was about as good as I could have hoped for if it's to be their last. Of course now I have to go through being depressed again that we may not see anything new from them...but any fans out there that haven't picked this up, need to do so pronto. Highly recommended.

At the Toronto rehearsal (2 days before the actual gig), the crowd was comprised of radio contest winners, and people from the official fan club (I was a member of the latter). And I swear I didn't hear Daryl's guitar do that bit, only because I was singing the lyrics myself, and so was everyone around me! Nothing like being surrounded by like-minded individuals! :)

cheers,

I guess I'm lucky.... Daryl Stuermer lives quite close here..... on the north side of Milwaukee, in WhiteFish Bay where I grew up....

Great guy, he does lots of local concerts which I usually try to make the time to see him... He does a bunch of radio spots on WKLH 96.5. I always enjoy seeing him, especially in the smaller more cozy venues... So much more ability to enjoy all the nuances of the presence he has... Great story music, how he takes you on those journeys of the mind. Its great the way he will project how, where, and when the songs came to him.

When I was young I dated one of his baby sitters and used to go over to see her at his house when they were out... Naughty... ;)

Spent so many years listening to Genesis, they have had quite an amazing influence on my life from early on...

Thank you Daryl Steurmer, Phil Collins, Steve Hackett, Tony Banks, Chester Thompson, Bill Bruford, Peter Gabriel, Michael Rutherford and all the rest of the lesser know contributers that brought GENESIS into our lives and shaped our thoughts with their creative abilities.... You will not soon be forgotten..

I'll have to search out the new releases...
