Monster Cables... Bad?

Hello everyone, this is my first post, but I have been reading the forums for past few weeks. I have noticed that alot of people do not like monster cable, and a few go as far as putting negative things in there signatures about monster cable. Is there a reason why they are so bad?

I currently have all monster cables connecting my components for no other reason other then I was ignorant of the fact that there were alternatives. I have the M series on my mains and center and just normal monster xp speaker wire, (that comes on the spool from best buy not sure of the gauge) for the rest of the surround speakers. Futhermore, I have monster cable m series for my hdmi connection.

I have noticed that a lot of people like and endorse cables from monoprice and blue jean. Is it worth it to replace all of my cables?

I am currently running Klipsch Reference Series speakers through a yamaha rx-v3800 and Mitsu 65833 tv. Also have a PS3 and three subs.

Welcome to the forum, Randy!

People here tend to bash Monster cable because of the cables being overpriced and/or they don't like the company. The cables themselves are typically not bad. They make good cables, but they aren't necessarily better than cables that cost a lot less.

So, if you already own them - don't go out and replace them! They will work just fine in your system. Just keep in mind when you go out to buy more cables that you can probably get the same quality for less from a different brand.

First of all you do not need to replace any of your cables unless they are defective (spend money in other areas). People do not like them because they sue any company big or small (mom and pop stores) that has the M%^&*$R word in it. People do not like their business practices. Some may even perceive it as unethical. However their cables work just as good as any other companys but their prices are much more expensive. Blue Jeans cable and especially Monoprice are much cheaper.

They are absolutely worth buying for less than retail, I mean who tf pays retail? But, I could prove to you if you were in Utah, that MC sound soooooo much better than the stock pieces of garbage that came with my rotel gear. So, are they better than stock HELL YES!!! but are they worth the retial BestBuy price HELL NO! there ya go!

Thanks for the advice. Monster being overpriced really isnt the word for it! I am in the process of adding another channel to my system to get 7.1, so I am looking at getting another 100 ft of speaker cable. While I was doing that, I thought I would rewire my other rear speakers (since I ran short and was to lazy to do it right and spliced some wire together). I was pricing monster for about 200 ft and WOW, for 200 feet of white cable was going to be around 140-150 dollars. I was able to get it form monoprice for 40 shipped. Holy moly batman! Any way thanks everyone at audioholics for giving me options.

The cables and power products are very good. The problem is that at MSRP they are not worth it. Street price vs. street price it's another story. I purchased all of my in-wall cable at Blue Jeans and all my HT cable - Monster at 50% off of MSRP, plus shipping.

One more thing to add... Monster guitar cables and XLR cables often use molded ends so that the internal wires are encased in hard plastic. Therefore, if something goes wrong internally, there is no way you can fix it. You can send it back to monster and they'll replace it apparently, but doing that all the time is annoying. I've owned 4 monster cables and all of them crapped out within a year while less expensive cables have lasted me much longer. I haven't used their speaker wire though.
