Yes if the curtains are thick enough they can work "OK" for the early reflection points. Just be careful not to put to much in the room as it will end up killing the highs in the room and leaving the room sounding muddy due to bass bouncing all over the place.

The lay out of the room is 12'x13'x7'10" high. The floor is carpet and pad on top of a 1" thick 'homasote'? like material on plywood. I sit along the the 13' wall on a pretty large sectional. Front speakers and subs are all 10'4" away from the listening position with the L&R speakers 7'8" apart. On my left is the
80"W x 84"H vertical blinds. The wall on the right (13'x 7'10") has 40 sq.ft. of openings in it that lead into other areas. I figure all those openings are completely dead spots for reflection . My thought was to reproduce that on the left.
As far as room treatments go
I have recently figured out to place pillows in between my head and the back wall while in the reclined position making for a cacoon like sweet spot for my noggin'.
When my GF saw that she said, "Just when I thought you couldn't get any wackier, you go off the f'ing deep end."
Obviously I have an interest in room treatments. WAF is enough of a problem but an even bigger problem is money. By the time I have time for my recent posting history, I'm out of work. That's just construction. This is the time for me to get my info and make plans so your input is certainly welcome here. I have identified you and bpape as the go to guys for this sort or thing.
Thanks,
Alex
