hello, i am currently connecting a turntable to my home theater reciever's "mini disc/tape input via a stereo reciever with a phono preamp. i am running the cable out of the turntable into the phono on the reciever, then tape out to the home theater reciever.

wow what a description... the question is about a cassette player/recorder. i found a sweet looking yamaha cassette player at a local antique shop and am wondering if i should replace my reciever with this. it doesnt say phono on the back put there is a ground. i would assume i could connect my record player to it and output to my ht reciever. right?

cause it has sweet wood sides and a stainless faceplate. really nice quality dolby deal. i am thinking 70s?

muchas gracias

You must have a Phono preamplifier. There really is no substitution. Even if the tape player had enough gain for the phono cartridges low output, It still would not have the required RIAA equalization.

You can only connect a turntable to a high gain input that also provides RIAA correction. A tape deck does not have this type of input.

oh well. i was hoping the tape deck had a preamp... guess i would have to run into a reciever and out to the deck anyhow. i am not sure what i was thinking. well, time to get a dedicated preamp. the reciever i am using as a preamp makes a slight backround buzz when i play records.

thanks for the helps
