I just wanted to say Hi to everyone, I'm new here and to the world of Hi-Fi as well. I just got my bachelors degree in physics so I have a great background in terms of all the science involved. I do have a few questions regarding my small but growing system. It started out like this... I needed a way to connect both my computer and my Xbox 360 to my 5.1 Klipsch computer speakers. So instead of getting some kind of preamp solution I decided to get a Yamaha rx-v3800 and pair of deftech SM450s (as well as a music hall MMF 2.2 turntable). My sound card has an optical output which can send out Dolby Digital and DTS as well as a standard PCM format. My video card also has an HDMI output but the receiver wont pass through my monitors native resolution of 1920x1200 so I cant use it. :( I ended up selling my Klipsch 5.1 junk to my roommate. I later picked up a Deftech Supercube 1 which is awesome.

Anyway, I want to upgrade to a 5.1 system and was thinking of getting the BP7000SC as my mains and a CLR 3000 for my center and use my SM450s in the rear. The only thing I am wondering is how I am going manage all that bass? I was thinking of setting all the speakers to small and using the LFE inputs in the Supercube and the two BP7000SCs for the low end. But that leads me with wondering what to do with the built-in sub in the CLR3000. Should I just set it as large? Or is there an LFE input for the CLR 3000 so I can just daisy chain all 4 subs?

I also need to think about getting another "monitor" for my system, something around 50 inches that works well with my computer. Currently I have two hooked up to my system, a 24 inch computer monitor that is both directly connected to my receiver (for my HD cable box and xbox360) and my computer as well as a 19incher thats connected to the computer only. I do have a cable wire connected directly to my computer so I can watch and record TV directly on my computer via windows media center but I don't get every station or On Demand that way. So if I can get a 50 inch TV to replace my 19 inch monitor I can keep the 24 incher for 100% computer use and the TV for computer/everything else. I also wouldnt have to worry about switching inputs on the TV as it will only be connected to the receiver because I can use the HDMI port on my computer for both video and audio since the receiver should be able to pass through the 1920x1080 native resolution found on most HD TVs .

So if all goes as planned I'll be able to play computer games, Xbox games, and watch TV all on the same display and surround system, and still be able to multitask with the 2nd monitor.

Anyway this is me just thinking out loud hoping others would chime in with their ideas and advice.

At one point I had 2 BP7000SCs + CLR3000 + 2 SM450s Surrounds.:D

The CLR3000 does not have a LFE input. It's a FULL-Range Low LEVEL input, which means you hook up the Center Channel Output to this.

I would set all speakers to large + Subwoofer.

The BP7000 will sum all SLE signal and send it to the low bass.

Also check out my system setup & website for more pics & fun.:D

AcuDefTechGuy, I've looked at your photo album about a week ago actually. I'm def very envious.

I worked at a high end audio/video store during my last semester so I got to check out some cool stuff we had. It's only a 4 man Brick and Mortar place so I had a lot of freedom. We had some lexicon stuff, magnapan speakers, lots of other cool stuff. They got a full line of Def tech speakers in stock and on display, except for that trinity sub I see you got. They are awesome! I fell in love. I'm not much of a Denon guy. I've always had a thing for Yamaha. I got their dirtbikes, violins, pianos, and some old receivers my dad bought in the 80s that still work really well.

One thing I didn't play with much was the CLR3000. It was hooked up to a Z11, along with 10 other speakers and 2 subs, but never actually got behind it. How does the whole Tri-amping thing work? I'm confused how you have yours connected and what do you mean by full range LFE input?

Anyway, I have a connection to get everything WELL below MAP prices, which is cool. I still gotta settle a bit before I start wasting my money though. :D

Welcome:D
I bet if Yamaha made cars, you'd have one of them too:D

ps.
coming form a hi end store, hope they didn't sell snake oil or you didn't bite into them.

Denon 5308 vs Yamaha Z11 - I think they are pretty much identical in terms of audio & video performance. But if I were judging, I would give the Audio specs to the Z11 and the Video specs to the Denon. So I would actually favor the Z11. However, since I'm a Denon guy, I would still pick the 5308. Pure personal preference and nothing to do with performace differences.

Yes, at one point I was actually Tri-amping the CLR3000 using 3 Acurus RL11s and an Acurus 200X3 (200 wpc x 3 ch).:D

The RL11s had dual L+R Outputs. I had to use one Y-splitter cable. So it then gave me 3 Center Channel outputs. These fed into the 3 channels of amps and fed to the 3 speaker terminals of the CLR3000.

It's "fun" to do and look at, but I don't think it does anything for performance.:D

Okay, on the BP7000SC, it's labeled "LFE In". On the CLR3000 it's labeled "Full Range Low Level In". Thus, you can hook the Subwoofer output to the BP7000SC, but NOT to the CLR3000. You would feed the CLR3000 a Center Channel Preamp Output -- if you want to. However, most people don't. I don't.

So now I just use one speaker wire for the CLR3000.

With my Denons, everything is set to Full-range 20 Hz - 20 kHz. Def Tech actually recommends the SM450s be set to Large as well.

I'm sure the "Night" is still "Young" for speaker auditions, but I still have NOT heard anything that would make me want to give up my BP7000s.:D

In fact, I'm planning on selling my CLR3000 Center and BP7001 Surrounds so that I can get 3 more BP7000SCs to make 5 identical BP7000SCs + the Trinity.:D

And then I'm planning on using 5 Y-Cables to create 6 Subwoofer/LFE outputs to feed the 5 BP7000SC + Trinity = 6 subwoofers.:D

That just seems insane. Do you plan on having a heart attack or something with all those subs?

How much are you selling the CLR3000 for?

I'm hoping $750 for the CLR3000 (like-new condition w/ all original carton/foam/box).:D

Actually all 6 Subs would be 600% Overkill in my present room. However, I'm hoping for a new house w/ a 1,000 s.f. HT room.:D
