I am in the market for a 42" - 46" LCD TV and need some advice as to which brands/models have the best picture and overall quality. I would be willing to spend up to $1500 for a 46". Any suggestions? I have seen Vizio LCD TVs for a pretty good price but am not familiar with the brand nor do I trust anything that is carried by Costco.

Im not sure $1500 is gonna get you the "best" of anything in LCD. Out of the afforable brands Vizio and Olivea might be your best bet. And FYI costco carried pioneer and panny plasma:rolleyes:

Not looking for the "best", but I do want a bright, sharp picture without dot crawl or any kind of "pixelage"

Take a look at www.secondact.com

A couple of my neighbors literally 4 or 5 tv's from there between the two of them. They swear by that place. It might be a good option.

I have had a 37" Vizio for a little 1 1/2 years and have been very pleased with it. it handles action very well with no artifacts and HD Blu Ray and satellite come in very claar even though only 1080i. All connected via HDMI.

I think the Sony V4100 can be had for around that price if you shop around. Fry's had it on sale one day for $1599.

...and is it worth spending the extra money for 1080P or will 720P suffice. I honestly can't tell the difference between standard def and 720P when it comes to viewing DVDs, but 1080P is significant.

$1500 CAD to my door for the Olevia 747i from www.Tigerdirect.ca

47inch, 1080p, detachable speakers each with their own 20 watt amp, Built in upconversion that is better then most DVD players. Glass screen makes cleaning cheap and easy. Using it as a computer monitor, and I couldn't be happier.

Will post screen shots in a few.

Here are some screen shots.

TV is hooked up to a cheap Samsung Up converting DVD player($100) Via HDMI at 1080p, and these are photos of the TV from my Camera (Canon Powershot S5 IS). It looks better in real life, but this is as good as I can currently get it. Ignore the blurry start bar on the desktop background, I had the Aperture value set too low.

Olivia 252T 52" LCD

Anyone have any feedback regarding the Olivia 252T LCD TV or Olivia TVs in general? $1400 is an awfully good price for a 52" television. And what is considered a good response time for an LCD TV? The 252T has an 8ms response time.

Since you have found a possible display, imo you should go demo it with source material that will help answer any questions you have.

The 747i it Olevia's flagship TV, and it is the same price. I would sacrifice the extra inches for the features.

Thanks for that link to tigerdirect, I am always looking for Canadian online stores. What were the shipping costs on the t.v?
To British Columbia I think it was a few hundred. Grand total all in taxes included was $1505. You have to remember this TV weighs 165lbs due to it's glass screen and large speakers. I HIGHLY recommend it. And I also recommend you keep the box in perfect condition, as you need it in case of warranty issues (If you don't keep it, it costs 250 for another box to send it back).
