I have a Harmon-Kardon AVR 210, Nuance speakers 12 year old set of 5 (two 5 foot fronts, two 2 foot rears, center), i think they sound ok. they done me ok since then. BUTTttt the front two towers both have subwoofers in them, and i tried splting them (i guess with a cheap splitter years ago) but they buzzed. my reciever only has one sub out. can i split this? should i get a better reciever, are the speakers really that bad for a "small system user"?

my entire system that i have now is:
52" sony aquos LCD ()
Harmon-Kardon AVR 210
Nuance speakers
PS3
PVR 160gig
Wii

room is approx 15"L 12"D 8"H
the tv is in the center above a not turned on gas fire place, not much intention of turning it on.

and now not much cash after tv upgrade of 20 years.. WHEW!!!

please help with opinions, generel setup help or possible upgrade ideas that are with means in future.

Do you have any budget to upgrade ? !2 years old speakers start to degrade.

As far as subwoofer, if they arep owered subs (LFE) then the receiver output is pre-out and you can connect two at the same time. Most subwoofers are powereed , even in towers. If however the subwoofers are passive, menaing you need line level speaker output, then you cannot connect two.

I could not find much information on the nuance pseaker line so I am not sure about it but I would consider replacing 12 year old speakers.

Harmon Kardon receivers are good your is 40 watts into 5 channels a little low power by today's standards.

if you can budget some money I would first replace you speakers. First the fronts. You can get some good speakers for as little as $219/pair that would sound good with your current receiver.

Cambridge Audio S30- http://spearitsound.amazonwebstore.com/Cambridge-Audio-S30-Speakers-Black/M/B00198LYMU.htm?utm_campaign=froogle&utm_medium=organic&utm_source=froogle

Hold off on a sub until you can afford a good one, SVS or Hsu they will cost youat least $400. A inexpensive sub sounds like a cheap sub.

Later you can replace your receiver. Yamaha makes a very good one 363 for only $199

Dunno what you're trying to say, but you can easily split the sub/LFE out of a receiver with a simple "Y" connector with one male and two female ends. Run an interconnect between the female jacks and the line-level inputs on the subs.

Assuming they weren't abused, twelve year old speakers should still be fine.

Does that answer your questions?
