Mirage vs. Velodyne

I'm stuck deciding between the Mirage S8 and the Velodyne DLS-3500. I can get the Mirage for $170 shipped or the Velo for $215 shipped. I will be using either almost exclusively for music in my bedroom. I'm leaning towards the Velo because my receiver does not have bass management and would like to utilize the sub's internal crossover to take some of the load off my mains (the Mirage doesn't have this feature). Anyone have any opinions on either? Thanks.

P.S. I live in an apartment, so a bigger sub isn't a viable option for me.

Never heard that Velo, but have heard the S8 and it's a pretty good sub. You should take a look at the x-sub from av123 as it's in this price range.

Is the velodyne the "R" series or the origanal?

will you need the sub to dig lower for ht? or will music be the primary purpose?

I heard the 12 inch version of the Velodyne and liked it. I've heard good things about the Mirage and the price is great. I guess I'm just wondering if the velo is worth the additional money for the ability to high-pass my mains.

the velo is pretty descent for output down to about 35hz with good spl thru its mid. The control features are nice (if one needs them) and imo id take it.

There are many great recommendations here, but thought I would chime in. Have you considered the Hsu STF-1?? This is a sub that is very musical and offers extension into the high 20's which is good for ht. Right now, there is a Silver one on clearance of at Hsu. Here is a link by the way:

There are many great recommendations here, but thought I would chime in. Have you considered the Hsu STF-1?? This is a sub that is very musical and offers extension into the high 20's which is good for ht. Right now, there is a Silver one on clearance of at Hsu. Here is a link by the way:

I agreed with speakerman39, the STF-1 is by far, the best choice. Member Jaxvon has one, and is quite pleased with it.

Hey, if it works for you that is really all that matters. We all only have so much money to work with and as such have to choose accordingly. Congrats on your purchase!!!! Let us know what your initial impressions are. Perhaps, post some pics if you can.

Really? The DSLR Series around here starts in the $300 range. The STF-1 is less then that.
