I am looking for a new subwoofer and wondering if anyone has had any experience with both the hsu vtf 2 mk3 and the svs pb12-nsd. I wanted to get some feedback on which of these two models people prefer. Thanks.

I have owned the SVS PB10-NSD, the PB12-NSD, and the Hsu VTF-3 MKIII. Currently, I have (2) Outlaw LFM-1 Pluses. What questions do you have? I am by no means an expert, but I will be more than happy to offer any assistance I can.

Cheers,

Phil

Well my main use will be movies so I would like to hear which you think performed better in movie applications. I'm not very technical so I was just looking more for peoples impressions of the two and any difference they may have noticed especially in relation to their use with mostly home theater/movies. Thanks.

It has been my experience that SVS subs tend to dig a hair deeper and HSU subs tend to be a hair more linear above 30hz. I don't think you could go wrong either way really as I'm splitting hairs.

Well to be honest, any of the subs mentioned in my earlier post all perform well with ht. It is true, however, that the PB12-NSD does shine in that realm. It has also undergone improvements in the musical areas as well. Keep in mind, I only ran the VTF3.3 in Max Output mode meaning no ports plugged. Not sure how it would have done in Max Extension mode, but my guess is that is would be very impressive. However, the PB12-NSD just kicks some serious a$$ with ht. My Pluses also do great job. Right now, the Outlaw LFM-1 Plus is still $499 which is an incredible bargain if you ask me. Hope this helps and as always good luck with your decision.

Cheers,

Phil

I've owned Hsu and SVS and this is a tough call. Not much to add here, but I think you'll be happy with either sub. Keep us up to date with you pick!

Just curious, is the plus worth it over the PB12 NSD, or is it a minor improvement?

Blue, it is really hard to say. Both are very good. I would have to say the PB12-NSD is better down real deep, but above 30 Hz or so the Plus would have the advantage. However, this is mostly due to the fact that I ONLY run my Plus in MAX Output mode and not in Max Extension. Given the current price on the Plus, I would have to say it is a bigger bargain right now. Either way, you could NOT go wrong with either one imho. It is also my understanding that the PB12 has been improved in the above 30 Hz range. As such, it basically comes down to what the buyer decides for himself. In other words, if money is tight I could easily understand why someone may opt for the Plus.

Cheers,

Phil
