I made these to de-couple the sub and speakers from a resonant floor. Not sure what that does for SQ but hopefully it reduces sound transmitted to my downstairs neighbor at least and maybe everybody else. It's not an excuse to play at higher volumes, just wishfull thinking about being heard less at normal volumes. The one for the sub got a layer of roofing rubber and more of that gummy stuff tin knockers use.

Made in USA :D

I doubt they will help keep the neighbors happy but they look good and will keep your sub from jumping on the hardwoods.

By the way, that sub looks tiny, did you buy it in the girls section?????hehehehehe

So easy a caveman can do it :D
You have missed the real caveman. Other than my hands and feet I am not that hairy. I'll PM you some pic's.

Actually the sub and speakers are on carpet. Some how putting the sub on that contraption got rid of a problem I had with LF sounds comming from the front top left corner of the room. I'm pretty considerate of my neighbors when it comes to the volume and time of day. My RTA registers busses or trucks driving by as being a lot louder LF wise than most things I do with the sub before 8:00 PM. After that I turn the sub off.

By the way, that sub looks tiny, did you buy it in the girls section?????hehehehehe
It's my first sub ever. It's a 10" and when I was deciding on which sub to get I almost pick the 8" version. I never would have been able to hold my head up around here. :D

Nice jab BTW. One of my personal favorites. :)

i hope the cost of that sub "isolator" is way less than the cost of a subdude/gramma :)

When you factor in the exchange rate for the fallen USD, free still rocks.

The black rubber things really are vibration isolators used in HVAC work. Mine are scraps but that stuff ain't easy to find. They had some really cool ones with cork in between the ribbed black rubber but I didn't get a chance to ask about them before I left the job.

I did go out on a limb by saying that some sort of standing wave was eliminated by placing the sub on that thing. My hard evidence as far as before and after measurements go is that my girlfriend thinks so too. :)

well free trumps anything :)
Free went out the window. Yesterday I ordered a sub to match the one I have. Now I need 2 platforms and my bag of scavenged goodies is toast.

I'm really interested in WmAx's stands that got mentioned in Jaxvon's Listening and Learning thread. Since I'm actually going to have to spend money on this I would like it to be more effective/cost effective than this:

:p...it's all Greg's fault...:p

Interesting thread on sub isolation. I was just having a chat with WmAx about this very thing. Since I have a sub floor instead of concrete in my house I plan on isolating my subwoofer as well.

I'll keep you guys in suspense for now, but I have had an isolation system in mind for a while. I'll post it in my Kappa Perfect build thread when I get to that step. It will probably be another 10 days or so before I get to that point.
