Receiver with small depth dimension?

Hi Folks,

I need a receiver that is less than 11” deep, so that it fits on our living-room shelves. This’ll be only for two-channel music (classical at concert hall volume level in a big room with high ceilings). I’m also searching for floor-standing speakers to match the receiver. I searched everywhere but can’t find a receiver less than 12.5” deep. Any suggestions?

Get a normal AVR, stick it in a closet and run a IR repeater to it so you can control it with the remote.

Thanks for the reply Greg, but your suggestion won’t work in my room – I’m stuck with receiver placement.

I noticed another thread about Audiosource amps, and looked them up. Audiosource Amp 100 (50Wx2) is only 9.25” deep. Do you folks think it has enough juice to drive a good pair of speakers and produce good sound quality? Unfortunately AMP 100 has only two RCA inputs.

You started the thread looking for a receiver and then mentioned the amp. So, some additional questions:

1) Where is the source material being played coming from?
2) Do you want a radio tuner?

The amp may very well be exactly what you're looking for. There are plenty to choose from.

Yes, I started looking for a receiver, but couldn't find one < 11" in depth, and happened to find this Audiosource amp by reading another thread.

So, I wonder if this amp or another amp (maybe with a pre-amp for extra inputs) would do the job.

sources will be: satellite receiver, cd player, and ipod. I'll be playing only 2-channel classical music.

I'd also like a radio tuner.

Parasound makes some very small size components that are also quite high quality.

The downside is that they are not really cheap.

I own a Zpre2, But have also worked with the Zamp and Ztuner. All of which are very nice products.

In summary -> all sources played back with same pair of speakers. (?)

This might work:
Sources (Satellite with red/white connections, ipod, cd player, and tuner (Ztuner)) into Zpre2 which is coupled to Zamp V.3

All items connected to the Zpre2 would have to be using the red/white RCA connections.

This setup could cause some height issues...

By using separate pre and power amps, you can always locate a larger power amplifier someplace besides the rack.

This would work out well with the "Z" tuner and pre-amp on the rack and the power amp located elsewhere.

I believe that Audiosource is simply a power amp. You will want/need a pre-amp with that.

Parasound looks nice. oooh, aaaah, cool looking separates.

But, Parasound Zamp costs twice as much as the Audiosource Amp-100 (both about 50W/channel), and Audiosource makes a preamp to go with the Amp-100.

I think I’ll go for the Parasound separates because of the coolness factor and probably better quality (I doubt I could hear differences in sound from these two brands).

I still wish I could find an a/v receiver that fits on my shelf.

Adam, my only limiting dim is depth. Among a/v receivers, Yamaha HTR-6030 D=12.5" is the smallest I've found. Thanks!

I could be wrong, but I believe the Panasonic Class D receivers might fit. Oops, just realized you said 2-channel.
