I have this friend that needs help: quad or hex Ultras?

he has two SVS PB13 Ultras

he's already decided on buying two more Ultras for a total of 4 Ultras in his HT, he's just waiting to see the finish on the two Ultras he has coming to decide what finish the 3rd and 4th Ultra should be.

he has a 4k sealed room. he has no WAF problems.

he's considering buying TWO additional Ultras for a total of SIX - says he wants to be done with it already.

should he go for the HEX ultras? (or stick with quads)

one of his options was to DIY 4 sealed 18's ... since each sealed 18 is about 2-3db better in output than a single ultra at 10hz, he figures that getting HEX ultras would get rid of the "what if" / "buyer's remorse" thing.

What about the new HSU ULS15. Wouldn't placing 4-6 sub wirelessly reduce a lot of clutter? You know you gotta get at least one of those just to see how they compare to the Ultra.

If he is getting multiple subwoofers to minimize room modes then more than 4 might not be worth it.

The conclusion I came to was that two subwoofers give you about 90% of the performance that is possible, and that four take you about as far as you can reasonably expect to go. Anything more than four is not going to get you much in the general sense -- and these are general conclusions.

problem with using ULS-15's is that it will be very hard to use them in combo with the existing Ultras.

iirc, single 20amp for the outlets but i do have 220v

i've yet to trip it with 4 Behringer A500's, 1 EP2500, projector, players, receiver and 4 subs
