I'm happy with my Toshiba 52XF550 LCD but I don't think Best Buy will be carrying it.

I really like the new Sony V4100 series LCDs compared last year's models. I finally convinced my in-laws to get a new TV for Christmas and they will be getting the 46" V4100.

Panasonic Plasma - I have a PZ800U that I like. For LCD, you can deal with TOC, then the Samsung 6 series.
Get a big TV...

Really big.

I really don't want to spend more than 1000 for a LCD.....I hear DLP is as good a picture as LCD. Any truth to this?

DLP depends more on the room than anything else. For a DLP to really shine they like dark rooms so if you can control the lighting it's a good bang for the buck. If you cannot then LCD will be better.

I guess I am going with LCD then...Thanks Gus.....
Yeah DLP can really be a nightmare in a reflective room with lots of windows. My in-laws have a 5 year old Sony DLP and it's just a nightmare watching TV in the afternoon in their living room. The room is pretty much surrounded by windows and my mom-in-law refuses to put up curtains.

I hope you don't watch too much afternoon movies at the in-laws...:D

ive been bitten by the KURO bug, making my recomendations skewed. I was very happy with the mitsu dlp, with the occasional lighting issue(very little), and would by another for size vs price reasons.I went from 57" to 50" with the plasma and have not been the least little bit dissapointed. The LCD in the bedroom serves me well and meets space requirments, but for me if were LCD vs DLP without need a wall mount, id take the dlp.

I just bought a Sony XBR Bravia (LCD). LOVE it. I bought the 52", but they make one size larger.

Previous to this tv, I had a Mistu 65" DLP. It was a good tv and somewhat counteracted the glare (it was set next to a wall of windows). But it didn't touch the picture quality on the XBR (even in pitch black). A DLP is good if you have enough space for one and may be the best bang for your buck (size wise). But imo, it doesn't compare to the picture quality of an lcd or plasma

The Samsung LN40A550 sells for around $1,000 - 1,100. It's a nice TV in that price range...

If you buy online you can save a lot of money over what best buy charges in store. For instance, the sharp aquos I just bought sells for $2600 at best buy and the exact same tv sells for $1800 on Newegg.com, plus you save on tax as well. I found it on buy.com as a factory refurb for $1000.

A properly calibrated DLP, under the right conditions, will stand with a LCD or plasma (I have all 3).

If your viewing is off axis then I would not go with a DLP. I find mine just fine for bright light viewing but then again, I dont have a ton of light hitting my room.

Plasma will give you the best overall picture quality (Panasonic or Pioneer) for your dollar.

If you must do LCD, the Samsung 750 and 81f series are very nice, but be prepared to pay for them. For what you pay you could probably one up the size in a plasma. Other than those, I have not seen an LCD I would touch with a 10ft. pole.

When I went to my local Best Buy last year, they didn't really have anything as far as plasma. I think they had 1, and it didn't look very good. So I ended up going with a Samsung LCD, the 5265F. About the ONLY complaint I have is motion blur. Fortunately, I don't notice it that often.

It has a great picture, but I'm already kind of wishing I'd gotten a larger one.
