Hi!

Its going to be my first time setting up a sound system. It will be used mainly on HD movies and music(mp3s and lossless codecs).

I don't have a TV, but I have a laptop with good specs, capable of playing HDs at 1080i. So yeah, im missing a good sound system.

Ive been doing my own research, and I've stumbled upon Klipsch Promedia 5.1 Ultra and the logitech's z5500. But come to think of it, why buy those speakers when I can setup my own 5.1 system instead?

This is where I need help at. I don't know what stuffs I need to buy in order to have a good sound system.

I don't need something that loud, something really clear and crisp would be great! I just live in an apartment for now, but I have plans to move out somewhere else. I also have plans on buying a projector or a TV after this setup.

Budget would be not more than $1,000 USD. By the way, I live in Japan, I'm not sure if there's a good place to buy speakers here, but if not, I'd probably buy in the Philippines(will be visiting on aug8-18).

Thanks!

Let me know if you plan to buy speakers in the Philippines so I can give you addresses of audio-video stores. In what city are you most likely going to be staying in the Philippines?

Sorry but I live in the countryside of Japan, about 2 hours ride from here to Tokyo on a bullet train.

Nice! I'd be staying in Manila. But.. I'd rather just look for the items I want then search for them whenever I could..

Computer speakers

I would get a nice pair of 2.0 or maybe 2.1 powered computer speakers for $200.

When you have a real TV, receiver, DVD player, etc. then I would think about spending $1k on HT speakers.
