Class D Subwoofer Amplifier

I've recently purchased an inwall RBH MCS-88 subwoofer which requires external amplification. I'm trying to find a class D monoblock amp that turns on automatically when it detects a signal and for a decent price. I know PE has the BASH amps for a good price, but there is no cabinet for this sub unless I put a BASH amp into the wall (not sure code would allow that). Av123 is supposed to have a class D amp out at some point, but is there anything out there now?

how much power do you need?

Note that PE has the 1000W amp in a stand alone/rack mount chassis. It is AB though, not D.

The Behringer came to mind already along with the BPA-1 (or Dayton equivalent), but I was hoping for class D.

I believe the mcs-88 is rated for 200 watts.

A buddy of mine is using a QSC with his 18" IB setup. It sounds pretty darn good.

The PE amp is a piece of crap. It can barely produce 1/2 it's rated power under any condition in credible 3rd party analysis/testing on the AVS forum. If PE would de-rate it to a 600W amp, I will revise my opinion and consider it average. But it had no special performance in terms of SNR or THD either. A Behringer EP2500 is superior in every measured parameter by a substantial degree and is lower in cost(unless the Dayton is on sale).

The EP1500 is straight up Class AB. The EP2500 is Class H. Class H is also Class AB, but under very high power demands, the amp has a second voltage rail level (higher voltage) that kicks in at demand.

Why do you care if it's Class D? The Behringer has the efficiency of a Class D at high power levels.

If you look at their own specs, it should be called a 500w amp, not a 1000w amp, and by that same token, the 500 is really a 250. It isn't hard to see what it will actually deliver even in the information they provided; it is just their claimed power that is out of line. I also wouldn't compare it to the QSCs or EPs.

PE claims this: "Measured power output: 512 watts RMS into 8 ohms @ 0.09% THD, 1,024 watts RMS into 4 ohms @ 0.15% THD"

In 3rd party testing, it produced a little over half these numbers. That is, at 4 ohms, it produced about 580 watts, not 1024 as claimed by PE.

The only way it might meet it's claimed numbers is by way of a transient peak output power testing method.

the ep2500 is the bang for the buck, d-sonic makes good value class d amps w/ B&O Ice Amp Modules, but 1000w into 4ohm is a G and 500w is 800, for those prices you could go w/ thw velo sc1250.

I guess I don't really.

Some new information. The MCS-88 if running off a monoblock will run at 4 Ohms so most inexpensive bridgeable amps are out. However, 2 channels may be used at 8 Ohms. I do want something that has either an auto-on feature or a 12v trigger. A used Outlaw monoblock might fit the bill as it's rated for 4 ohms. Or any 100wpc stereo amp with a 12v trigger would do as well.
