Im looking to quell some of the brightness from an Acurus amp/preamp, but I want to retain the big bass that I get from my original Monster cable. Is AudioQuest type 4 worth a try?

The Monster cable is probably causing the brightness.
Two years ago I picked up a small roll of Monster XP for a stereo setup. It made the tweeters sound overly bright, and I knew from 30 years of playing those speakers they should not be bright at all
I replaced it with speaker cable from Blue Jeans Cable, that solved the problem.

If you have such acoustic issues, look elsewhere for the solutions, not your amp or wiring. Urban legends, mythology and voodoo is everywhere.
So, either use room treatment, reposition your speakers, different speakers or EQ. Certainly your monster cable nor that amp is the culprit. Nor will the Audioquest solve it.

Speaker wire has the least affect on your system of anything in the chain, so it would NOT be the first place to look to do any kind of "taming". I have used Audioquest type 4 compared to Monster XP and X-1S and the difference in sound was more or less nil. I am not saying Monster makes good wire, I am simply saying that wire doesn't have a dramatic influence on what you hear unless it is 1) too small of an AWG or 2) damaged.

No it is not worth a try. The easiest thing to do if don't want to hear all the high frequency content is simply to angle the main speakers enough off axis to attenuate the highs to your satisfaction. Tweeters are pretty directional. That is the acoustic solution. The electronic solution is an equalizer or a tone control.

I have Ohm Walsh 2s. NOT an in your face speaker by any means, and the tweeter is already toed in greatly due to the design.

I have always been interested in the Wash Driver. Personally I think they mucked them up when they added the tweeters, to boost the HF. You might want to try disconnecting the tweeters.
